Who are we?
The Innovation Enablement (IE) team is a new and fast-growing team within Citi's Chief Technology Office. Our mission is to (1) improve Citi's technology capabilities and make it easier for our firm to innovate and (2) enhance connectivity between IT and our Businesses to improve Citi's profitability and investment outcomes.
We will execute on this mission across four pillars. First, we will discover, validate, and implement 3rd party technology which resolves our firm's identified requirements and capability gaps. Second, we'll enable innovation across the firm by enhancing our ability to test and adopt new technology. Third, we will provide a suite of services which enable our lines of business new sources of revenue, compelling client services, and enhanced business-client relationships. Lastly, we'll break down silos to drive more efficient innovation outcomes and improve Citi's stance as a leader in innovation. As part of the Chief Technology Office, we're uniquely positioned to execute on this mission.
Role description
This is a technical role and will require someone with a complementary background.
The Technology Evaluation role will be primarily responsible for conducting initial technical due diligence on 3rd party vendor software to determine fit for Citi's enterprise needs. To aid in this effort, this role will form a comprehensive understanding of Citi's enterprise IT capability gaps, and in turn work with the external technology ecosystem (Venture Capital, Startups, etc.) to identify and evaluate 3rd party vendor solutions.
Additionally, this role will be responsible for leveraging the bank's technology strategy, expertise, and industry relationships for business development efforts with the firm's revenue generating lines of business.
Success will ultimately be measured by the adoption of technologies that Citi would otherwise not have identified or considered, resulting in material improvement of Citi's underlying technology capabilities. This role will be highly visible at senior levels and will also entail very close working relationships with leaders throughout Citi and the external technology ecosystem. Successful candidates will have a combination of both technology and business skillsets and will report into the Global Head of Innovation Enablement at Citi.
Key Responsibilities
Innovation Strategy & Product Evaluation
Understand Citi's underlying enterprise tech stack - both strengths and weaknesses - and maintain knowledge of current firm-wide software and respective software roadmaps
Manage Innovation Enablement's 3rd party software evaluation process, including initial triage, competitor analysis, scalability and usability withing Citi's global infrastructure, documenting findings and recommendations, and educating internal stakeholders on potential use-case(s) and benefits.
Collaborate with Citi's technology leadership to understand strategies and roadmaps at a technical level, and provide recommendations via a portfolio of best-in-breed vendors to solve challenges
Remain current on technology market developments and best-of-breed vendor solutions
Facilitate in-person executive briefings and strategy sessions
Relationship Management
Serve as a trusted advisor to Citi's technology leadership and technology product owners. Act as a translator between IT and business teams.
Identify and maintain relationships with IT product owners to understand technology roadmaps, challenges, and opportunities, while utilizing these networks to signpost opportunities to 3rd party vendors.
Organize and prepare structured material for external and internal conversations that require technical knowledge and expertise, including writing of 3rd party evaluation briefs and RFIs
Business Development
Leverage the bank's use of technology and expertise to deepen and expand investment banking and institutional client relationships. This client-facing role requires a deep understanding of business needs and technology strategies across the firm.
Identify opportunities where Citi is already in commercial discussion with a start-up to ensure that our lines of business are engaged as early as possible, maximizing revenue and investment opportunities
Partner with Citi Ventures to identify companies for their investment pipeline, focused specifically on products Citi has a genuine interest in adopting. Additionally, help provide consultations to Citi Venture's portfolio holdings helping them be successful at Citi or elsewhere
Experience & Qualifications:
Background: This is an engineering role. Candidates should have experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Tech Strategy, IT Transformation, Enterprise IT, or related fields
Professional Experience:
Experience with technical evaluation of 3rd party software
Experience in large and complex global organizations
Experience with, and knowledge of major disruptive technology domains (e.g., Cloud, Big Data, Analytics, AI, Automation, Cyber, etc.)
Experience with 3rd party vendor products and a solid understanding of the technology market, trends, and hype cycles
Experience in Financial Services or other regulated industries is a plus
Relationship Management: Candidates should be able to identify and act upon client needs, be able to proactively identify pain points, have experience with CRM software, and program management processes.
Strong Writing and Presentation Skills: We strive to build a best-in-class service model for both our internal and external stakeholders. Candidates should be a proactive, detail-oriented communicator, feel comfortable presenting to senior leadership, and be able to engage in strategic discussions.

Being able to quickly understand new concepts and their impact will require a strong conceptual understanding of technology and the wider technology industry. Willingness to be hands-on when necessary, regardless of task.
Resilience and Tenacity: Innovation requires overcoming constant roadblocks and setbacks. Candidates should have the ability to keep going when others say something can't be done. Be able to openly question why things are done a certain way and challenge the status quo.
