Marketplace Strategic AccountManagement - This role can be based in CA or NJ is committed to creating a superior customer experience & marketplace sellers are an instrumental part of that strategy.Walmarts Marketplace team is focused ongrowing the businessbyacquiring, onboarding, & managing new brands & sellerswith aseller-first approach.

  • The Strategic Account Management (SAM) Team is responsible for managing a book of business for Walmarts top Tier 1 sellers. They are responsible for hitting GMV goals by optimizing the business of existing sellers & driving growth of new strategic partners. This team will own the business front-to-back & will get exposure to all areas of the business,including:seller recruitment, onboarding, site merchandising, marketing, account management, & more. The SAM team will work collaboratively to deliver a best-in-class marketplace experience for our customers & cost-effective, sustainable businesses for our sellers.

About the Role

Account Strategy Development:

  • Directs & enhances existing retail partnerships (i.e. merchants listing products on the marketplace) for a category, including orientation & integration, engagement & business development, communication & alignment with key stakeholders.
  • Approves business cases & account plans & suggests additions or enhancements based on category, organizational & industry knowledge.

Analysis & Reporting:

  • Directs analysis of partner performance across multiple dimensions and/or sites to identify future opportunities.
  • Supports development of partner performance strategy, ensuring alignment of strategy & team with organizational objectives.


  • Collaborates with cross-functional directors & teams to provide recommendations to managers regarding partnership changes or enhancements based on performance analysis & pipeline reports.
  • Supports Category GMs in strategy development & reviews gaps for a category.
  • Cultivates an environment where associates respect & adhere to company standards of integrity & ethics.
  • Develops & implements strategies to attract & maintain a highly skilled & engaged workforce.
  • Develops & leverages internal & external partnerships & networks to maximize the achievement of business goals.

Partner Orientation & Integration:

  • Provides strategic relationship guidance to managers.
  • Oversees orientation & integration process & serves as a high-level account executive to the partner when needed.

People Development:

  • Ensures associates are receiving learning & development opportunities (e.g., training, mentoring) for the good of the associate & Walmart.
  • Coaches team members & provide feedback to enhance skills, knowledge & work performance.
  • Mentors Partnership Managers & less experienced associates.

Performance Optimization Action Planning:

  • Supports with the development of performance optimization strategy.
  • Approves or directs changes to action plans based on multi-site & organizational knowledge.
  • Provides overall direction.

Relationship & Account Management:

  • Serves as a primary account executive for a portfolio of retail partners for a category & acts as a trusted advisor, ensuring long-term, mutually-beneficial relationships.
  • Develops detailed strategy for development of retailer/brand target pipelines across a category.
  • Proactively seeks out & builds key relationships with optimal retailers/brands to improve product breadth, margin & sales for a category.
  • Directs the development of KPIs to improve purchase order reconciliations, recall procedures & associated processes & tools.
  • Defines & implements self-service support strategy.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in business or related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading very large teams
  • Seven years of experience in related area
