We are looking to hire a photo editor at BuzzFeed News to help shape the visual voice for the next generation. You would be joining a team of award-winning journalists & visual producers to work closely with the news desk to ensure that our imagery is smart & thoughtful.
The role would include supporting the news desk by pulling engaging photo research for news pieces, & curating photo stories for an audience that is visually savvy. Some days, that means finding photos that take our audience on the ground where news is breaking. Other days that means spotlighting the work of an up-and-coming photographer or exhibition that's relevant.

As such, you may be asked to share your knowledge with your colleagues through presentations or trainings, to screen & interview job candidates, or to take part in recruitment or networking events on behalf of the company and be part of a union.
The ideal candidate would be a creative type with 3-6 years of professional experience, preferably in a newsroom. We need someone who has a strong visual eye, is detail oriented & able to work in a fast-paced environment. Strong news judgement preferred and, good writing & communication skills required. As we are an online news organization, an understanding of the internet & how images work on different platforms is a must.
They will need to have working familiarity with agencies, photo licensing practices & copyright law, & a passion for photography. Strong social media or video skills, & a deep knowledge of photo history would be a plus.
