Responsibilities:

  • Manage & coach multiple teams of talented engineering managers, leads, software engineers & machine learning engineers
  • Manage the projects, workflows, & roadmap of the team, including Agile cadence & organization
  • Organize & manage R&D, architectural design, & execution
  • Manage the development of scalable & robust systems
  • Identify & track critical diagnostic metrics for the health & growth of our core technologies
  • Evaluate & introduce new technologies, processes, & policies when necessary
  • Partner with senior technical leaders to drive the quality & direction of Foursquares Places Database, both as a standalone product & as the dataset underpinning Foursquares core visit detection technology, developer API & other enterprise product offerings
  • Work with product teams & other department stakeholders to align on & drive forward broad engineering & company initiatives
  • Grow & build a diverse & effective team by recruiting for the team, establishing hiring goals, interviewing norms, & evolving the onboarding process for new team members
  • Work closely with external strategic clients to grow partnerships, learn about the market, & advance our technical capabilities

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of proven experience in software engineering/development
  • 4+ years experience managing people, people managers, & projects on a product or engineering team
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to convey intricate systems & logic to both technical & non-technical audiences
  • Track record of shipping & scaling high-quality software systems as an individual contributor & manager
  • Motivational skills & the ability to align teams toward company goals & vision
  • Strong desire to tackle large-scale problems & big-data problems

Bonus Skills

  • Experience working with geospatial datasets and/or on data quality problems
