The Role

We are looking for an independent & process driven Staff Accountant with a strong background in complex reconciliations & an invested interest in keeping pace with the transactions of a fast-growing InsurTech company. As a Staff Accountant within our growing finance team in Toronto, you'll work with functions across the organization & external bookkeepers to ensure the integrity & timeliness of our accounting information & financial reporting. We are looking for someone who has experience working in a fast-paced accounting space that will be independently analytical & passionate about digging into the details.


  • Working with functional teams & external bookkeepers to reconcile & prepare accurate financial statements in accordance with U.S GAAP as part of the monthly close process

  • Revenue reconciliation & overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, & other related accounting matters

  • Develop & document business processes & accounting policies to maintain & strengthen internal controls

  • Provide financial analysis & insights on business operations & practices

  • Identify opportunities for automation to improve the speed & efficiency of accounting processes

  • Provide support with audits, financial planning, & insurance reporting as necessary


  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance

  • CPA with 2+ years of experience in accounting and/or finance experience

  • Exposure to property & casualty insurance accounting & reporting is a plus

  • Hands-on experience with Xero, QuickBooks, & other accounting and/or ERP software is a plus

  • Self-starter & ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

  • Comprehensive knowledge & experience with generating accounting, month-end close procedures, eliminations & consolidations, controls, internal reporting & analytics

  • Good knowledge of U.S. GAAP; conceptual & practical experience in researching, understanding & communicating technical accounting issues & conclusions

  • Excellent communication & project management skills with attention to detail
