About This Workshop

Take a deep dive into the magical language of the internet & learn the technologies for rapid development, efficiency, iteration & speed. Javascript is the functional & dynamic programming language developed with functionality & web developers in mind. As the foundation of millions of web pages & with frameworks constantly being built to compliment it, JavaScript is here to to stay. If you're a web designer who wants to up skill their toolkit to the digital climate & be taken seriously as a front-end developer, this class is for you.



Through lecture & hands-on activity, participants will gain experience with the basics of using Javascript & jQuery to update the appearance & content of a web page in real time.




Prereqs & Preparation

Participants are assumed to have experience with writing HTML & CSS without the assistance of a graphical editor (i.e. Dreamweaver).



You should be comfortable looking at HTML source code, inspecting web pages & making changes to existing HTML & CSS. Knowledge of templating is helpful. Cut-and-paste experience with Javascript/Jquery is a plus.



Required Materials: Laptop, Chrome Web Browser, Sublime Text 2 text editor. Additional materials will be downloaded during class.

Bedford Williamson is a Full Stack Developer with a passion for Javascript & Teaching. Being well versed in many modern tech stacks he loves sharing opinions & considerations when discussing technological trade-offs.



Prior to becoming a full-time engineer, he spent many years working for San Francisco Unified School District as Educator & Program Manager. During that time he developed a style of teaching where he is sensitive to multiple learning styles. Whether you learn best by watching, doing, or reading he has you covered with many inclusive strategies.
