Sexbots, life-like robots designed specifically for human sexual pleasure, will be a reality in the not-so-distant future. Some argue sex robots could drastically reduce prostitution, or even sexual crimes, while others are concerned this development will further reduce human empathy, reinforce sexism, & promote sexual violence. Most can agree this is a sexual frontier worth discussing.
Join Brianna Booth & Julie Carpenter as they speculate on the future of human-robot sexual interaction & discuss how this development could impact the future of sex, love, & intimate relationships. Considering this subject from both robot & human perspectives, Dr. Booth & Dr. Carpenter tackle issues of consent, agency, & desire as well as whether or not it is possible for a human to form a mutually satisfying, loving relationship with a robot.

Julie Carpenter earned her PhD & an MS from the University of Washington, an MS from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, & a BA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is also currently a research scientist for Accenture & a Research Fellow in the Ethics + Emerging Sciences group at California Polytechnic State University.Dr. Carpenter's principalresearch is about how culture influences human perception of AI & robotic systems & the associated human factors such as user trust & decision-making in human-robot cooperative interactions in natural use-case environments.Visit jgcarpenter.com to learn more about Dr. Carpenter's writings & research.
Brianna Booth is compelled by a deep belief that we as a society can do better on the challenges of sexuality. She aims to transform the cultural conversation to more fundamentally level up on both the challenges & possibilities of sexuality. Dr. Booth earned her PhD & MEd in Human Sexuality Studies & a Master of Applied Positive Psychology, focusing her research on the lived experience of sexuality & the skills of navigating it well. Building on these frameworks, Brianna is creating a series of programs--Beyond Sex Ed--which take a whole-person & whole-culture approach, centered on storytelling, the skills for growth & connection, & a recognition of sexuality as an integral part of what it is to be human. She is the Director of Positive Sexuality, Design & Development at Stanford University.
