Want to learn more about data science but have no idea where to start? This course is for absolute beginners looking for an introduction to the basic Python programming & mathematical principles essential to learn as a first step toward developing data science skills or a new career in the field.

We will cover:
Introduction to programming in Python
Common Python libraries: NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib
Foundations of linear algebra
Foundations of calculus
Foundations of probability
Foundation of statistics

Course details:
July 22nd to August 29th
Mondays & Thursdays
6:30pm - 9:30pm ET

Garrett gets most excited about approaching data problems from a people-first perspective employing empathy for the end user & using what we know or can learn about complex systems to drive optimal experiences & outcomes.

In his current role as Director of Data Science at StockTwits, Garrett leads efforts to use data science & machine learning to understand the networks social dynamics & develop research & discovery tools that are used by over one million investors. A self-proclaimed recovering actuary, he started his career at Xerox, building probabilistic life contingency models for healthcare & retirement plans, designing liability driven asset management strategies & using Monte Carlo techniques to value executive option plans. He holds a BA in Mathematics from the The College of New Jersey & is currently working towards his MS in Computer Science from Georgia Institute of Technology. He is also an alumni of the Metis Data Science Bootcamp. When not working Garrett enjoys playing basketball, going to the gym, keeping up with tech news & working through MOOCs to stay on top of the latest development in AI.
