Bioscience Business: Turning aGreat Scientific Idea into a Commercial Product

Dr. Steve Casper (Keck Graduate Institute)

Each year, university scientists invent thousandsof new methods and products that can conceivably be turned into commercial services and products. Very few of these inventions, however, have commercial success. What makes a life science technology commercially attractive? The goal of this talk is to introducepracticing scientists to simple tools and concepts that are commonly used by investors and companies to gauge the commercial attractiveness of life science discoveries. Dr. Casper will discuss several biomedical inventions that became commercially successful,as well as some that did not.
