Observability Platforms is focused on creating visibility into DigitalOceans services & infrastructure. We design, build, & operate the internal logging, metrics, distributed tracing, error reporting, monitoring, & alerting platforms that are depended on to ensure good, reliable experiences for DigitalOceans customers. Through a mix of open source services & in-house developed software we seek to continuously improve the ability of DigitalOcean engineers & product managers to understand the behavior of their products & services in order to improve the experiences of our customers.

What You'll Be Doing:

• Integrating & operating open source observability software such as OpenSearch, VictoriaMetrics, Alertmanager, Grafana, & Kibana.
• Implementing features to both improve the operability of our services & help design & implement the next generations of metrics & logging at DigitalOcean.
• Guiding other engineers on how they can best utilize our systems to gain confidence that their services are performing as expected.

What We'll Expect From You:

• Experience with open source observability systems such as Opensearch & VictoriaMetrics, not just as an end user but as someone responsible for running & maintaining them.
• Familiarity with running software on container orchestration systems such as Kubernetes or Nomad
• Experience writing software in Golang. Experience with the challenges of concurrency & distributed systems is a plus.
• Experience with DevOps tooling such as Terraform, Ansible, & Github Actions (or other relevant CI/CD experience).
• An ability to work well as part of a geographically distributed team.
• Participation in a 24/7 on call rotation
• Someone who is motivated to learn, teach, grow, explore, & seek out areas we can improve
• Strong communication & customer service skills - we provide support to the internal users of the systems we design, build, & operate.

• We reward our employees. The salary range for this position is between $140,000 - $187,000 based on market data, relevant years of experience, & skills. You may qualify for a bonus in addition to base salary; bonus amounts are determined based on company & individual performance. We also provide equity compensation to eligible employees, including equity grants upon hire & the option to participate in our Employee Stock Purchase Program.
