Job Description

The Global Systems Engineering group is responsible for engineering & support of the IT infrastructure for Visa & VisaNet. This includes planning, design, evaluation, installation, deployment, & maintenance of the IT infrastructure for the data centers & office facilities. This is an individual contributor role responsible for solving complex problems & taking a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions. This role serves as a technical/functional specialist & works independently with guidance only in the most complex situations.

Provide timely & effective support & escalation for z/OS database & associated products in the production & development environments at all Visa Data Centers. This support is also extended to all users of those systems.

Provide database administration & support for all of Visa's mainframe Db2 databases.

Manage the Db2 change activity across all production & development z/OS systems.

Responsible for driving service-impacting issues & problems to resolution.

Responsible for participating in the development & assessments of Visa's overall z/OS database strategies, technologies & architectures to meet the operational & continuity needs of Visa & its customers.

Provide z/OS Db2-related guidance & training to both internal & external audiences.

Qualifications
  • Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree or equivalent

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • 7-10 years of experience with DB2 & z/OS industry or live production environment experience

  • 7-10 years of work experience & a Bachelor's Degree or

  • 6 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or

  • 3 years of experience with a PhD

  • Strong technical analytical & troubleshooting skills, & possess an ability to explain technical concepts & provide guidance to junior staff

  • Ability to write technical design & build documentations for all aspects of a technical infrastructure

  • Ability to provide level 3 support & guide level 2 administrators on problem resolution. Exhibit understanding & perform operational acceptance/turnover activities

  • Must be willing to go on 24x7 "On-call" support rotation

  • Experience with maintaining highly available & highly secure systems

  • Strong process orientation & a solid understanding of software development & testing techniques, methodologies & best practices are the primary requisite for this position

  • Individual should be extremely self-motivated with the ability to work independently, coordinating activities within cross-regional & cross-functional teams

  • Strong interpersonal, facilitation, & leadership skills along with effective communication (both written & verbal) skills

  • Exhibit advanced planning, organizational & problem solving skills

  • Strong project management skills

  • ITIL certification preferred

  • Ability to operate in complex, highly-secure, & highly-available, operations environments & interact with the technology domain experts required to maintain those environments

  • Work with other Engineering Disciplines to develop Infrastructure Building Blocks based Reference Architectures & standards that can be offered as services to our customers

  • Candidates will possess strong leadership & interpersonal skills & have experience working in large enterprise operational environments

  • Perform and/or coordinate installations & upgrades to the z/OS database & tools

  • Competency in the use of standard Db2 tools & utilities including those supplied by Broadcom

  • Evaluate & participate in selecting z/OS database administration tools to improve the effectiveness (i.e. timeliness, quality, etc.) of tasks such as performance monitoring & tuning, recovery processing, & change management processing

  • Provide 24x7 support for z/OS DB2 databases & DB2-related applications

  • Provide technical guidance to internal contacts in the design of infrastructure solutions that meet business needs & perform to engineered specifications

  • Identify, define & implement improvements to the z/OS database environments & related support activities & practices

  • Manage the delivery of solutions to operations

  • Provide proactive analysis of Visa complex core systems & applications to detect potential problems & make preventive corrections

  • Provide database administration support to application teams including consulting & QA review services

  • Support the production implementation of mainframe applications including the development & implementation of backup & recovery strategies

  • Develop and/or provide training for database access strategies & SQL coding

  • Develop, promote & support data management concepts & processes

  • Conduct quarterly DB2 database TSR reviews & support production database TSR remediation activities

  • Perform database backup & recovery when required

  • Physical Requirements

This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit & stand at a desk, communicate in person & by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones & computers, reach with hands & arms, & bend or lift up to 25 pounds.
