The Role

The BuzzFeed Fellowship is a three-month program with a possible contract extension for aspiring & hungry writers eager to hone their skills, & to learn by doing. The program is a crash course in how to consistently create content (both articles & videos) that capture readers attention, push the cultural conversation forward, & reach a massive audience.  

Fellows need a strong grasp of the nuanced cultural conversations happening all over the internet & should be excited about contributing to those conversations if not starting new ones via AI-enhanced/generated content. Were looking for people who are fascinated by social media, human psychology, & trends of all kinds. On any given day, you might be researching behind-the-scenes facts & Easter eggs about a trending piece of pop culture, testing out cooking hacks, or making a TikTok explaining a viral news topic. 

Fellows will work with & learn from members of the BuzzFeed team some of the smartest, weirdest, most creative, & most viral creators out there. This is the perfect opportunity for someone interested in pursuing a career in digital media. You wont be running errands for senior staff, or transcribing someone elses interviews, you will be pitching ideas, taking assignments, brainstorming, collaborating, & writing dozens of stories that will be published to BuzzFeed.com & promoted across our social channels. You may also create (or collaborate with team members) to create vertical videos (TikTok, Reels, YouTube Shorts). 

The Fellowship is fun & inspiring, but also fast-paced & challenging. 

This is a paid position (starting at $18/hour). The Fellowship allows for candidates to work fully remote in select locations. If youre local to NY or LA, there will also be opportunities to work alongside us in our Times Square & Hollywood offices.

You Have

We're looking for culture & internet obsessives with a passion for the things people are sharing, liking, recommending, & talking about. You should also have:

• A positive, curious, playful disposition
• A genuine, wide-eyed love of pop culture & internet trends in all their forms
• An interest in social platforms & what drives people to share content
• Curiosity & excitement about social platforms (TikTok, Instagram, Reddit, YouTube, Tumblr, etc.)
• Curiosity & excitement about utilizing emerging AI technology to create unique & entertaining content

In addition, you should demonstrate the following:

• Some experience creating content for the internet (it doesnt have to be formal anything from published articles to creative Twitter threads to personal TikTok accounts)
• Ability to quickly identify social trends & topics
• Ability to handle critical feedback & improve from it
• Eagerness to collaborate
• Ability to interpret key audience data points relating to your work & use it to adapt & evolve your approach moving forward
• Experience with video editing tools a plus
• Familiarity with & ideally experience using current & emerging AI creation tools (Chat-GPT, Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, DALL-E) a plus
