The purpose of this role is to lead Java development teams delivering work for our clients, ensuring the on-time delivery & quality of application code.  The role is a mix of hands-on development, oversight & leadership of multiple project teams & you are expected to always lead by example. The role has ultimate responsibility for implementing processes, communicating, & enforcing, ensuring Java standards. As part of your day-to-day role, you will provide mentorship & leadership inspiring the best work from your team members.



You Will:

  • Lead a team of developers, providing mentorship, guidance, & support to ensure their professional growth & success. Develop & implement strategies for team growth & collaborate with your leadership team to ensure voices are heard.
  • Develop & nurture the careers of team members, including identifying areas for growth, setting performance goals, conducting regular performance evaluations, & providing constructive feedback.
  • Collaborate with HR & recruitment teams to hire the right individuals for the team, ensuring a diverse & skilled workforce. Conduct interviews & assess candidates' technical skills & cultural fit.
  • Work with the leadership team to foster a culture of empowerment & inclusivity, encouraging team members to voice their opinions, ideas, & concerns. Creating an environment where everyone feels valued & respected.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, understanding their business needs, & ensuring project requirements are met. Act as a trusted advisor, providing technical guidance & recommendations, supporting the creation & planning of technical solutions.
  • Build trust & facilitate effective communication between team members, stakeholders, & clients. Conduct regular team meetings, status updates, & project reviews to ensure alignment & transparency.
  • Ensure high-quality deliverables by establishing & enforcing coding standards, conducting code reviews, & implementing quality assurance processes.
  • Identify & mitigate project risks, proactively addressing any issues that may impact project timelines or deliverables. Implement contingency plans when necessary.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, technologies, & methodologies. Identify opportunities for process improvements & implement best practices to enhance team efficiency & productivity.
  • Track & monitor team performance, & identify areas for improvement. Provide regular updates to project & client services teams on project status, risks, & mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with internal & external stakeholders (PMs, Client Services, including business analysts, & other technical teams, to ensure smooth project execution & successful outcomes. Proactively address client concerns, resolve issues, & maintain high customer service.

You Have:

  • Experience with Java 11,17,21, Java Streams, Java Collections, Spring Boot, JPA, Hibernate, OSGi, NodeJS, Groovy, PostgreSQL, Mongo/DocDB.
  • Experience with Git, Jenkins, Python & Bash for helper tools development, using package managers (npm, maven, pip), debugging & unit testing.
  • Experience with version control tools such as Git, GitHub, BitBucket to manage codebase changes & collaborate effectively with other team members across global markets.
  • Experience with the Atlassian suite of tools - Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence, etc.
  • Experience with modern CI/CD workflows.
  • Knowledge of common development best practices (e.g., TDD, agile).
  • Experience in creating detailed task tickets ready to be worked on.
  • WCAG accessibility experience is preferred.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with team members, stakeholders, & clients to understand requirements & provide updates on project progress.
  • Scalability planning experience, which you can use to develop strategies to accommodate future growth & increased system demands.
  • Experience with performance optimisation & can identify bottlenecks & optimise system performance.
  • Experience with security & compliance, ensuring adherence to security standards & compliance requirements.
  • Expertise with documentation & technical standards, which will help establish standards & maintain comprehensive documentation.
  • Experience with knowledge sharing & training, which will facilitate continuous learning & skills development.
  • Experience with technical leadership, providing guidance & mentorship to foster technical excellence.
  • Multi-project commercial experience with relevant tools such as >Java11 (OpenJDK), Docker, Kubernetes, Maven, Jenkins, NVM, RESTful APIs, ActiveMQ or similar.
  • Experience working in an agency environment.

You May Have:

  • Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) on version 6.3 or later, or enterprise CMS.
  • Cloud & infrastructure management experience, optimise cloud resources & design resilient infrastructure.
  • Experience with proof-of-concept development: Validate architectural decisions through prototypes & experiments.
  • Experience with performance monitoring & optimisation: Measure & improve system performance.
  • Experience with disaster recovery & business continuity: Develop plans for data protection & system availability.
  • Experience with some or all of the following technologies: AWS Lambda, EC2, ECS, EKS, ECR, SQS, Amplify, REST, GraphQL, OSGi, AWS, Docker, Varnish/Fastly, AEM.
