Vox Media // combining media, content, tech & distribution
Apply To Job

Polygon is looking for a Games Editor to help shape & direct its coverage of video games. This role will manage editors & writers, edit & shape coverage, & also write occasionally as well.

WHO WE ARE

Polygon is a modern entertainment brand, covering the media that young people love. We connect our audience directly to the content they want to enjoy; to the culture & the inclusive community they want to be a part of; & to the stories & ideas they otherwise wouldnt know existed.

Polygon is part of Vox Media, the leading modern media company. We guide our audience from discovery to obsession. We inspire essential conversations about whats now, whats next, & whats possible.

As a community of journalists & storytellers, business professionals, creators & technologists, we believe it is a moral & business imperative to amplify voices: to cultivate diversity, equity, & inclusion throughout our organization & media. This applies to our candidates, our teams, our storytelling, our creative work, & our platforms, products, & partnerships.

WHAT YOULL DO

As Games Editor, youll work with our Deputy Editor, Games to bring high quality video games coverage to Polygon that meets our readers interests. Youll find stories, vet pitches, assign work to writers & other editors, & edit coverage, which includes news, analysis, reported stories, impressions, reviews, & continuing post-release coverage. Youll lead brainstorms & plan around big tentpole events, & find stories to delight our readers between the big releases. Youll use data to see what coverage resonates with Polygons audience. Youll lead by example by writing as well.

The Games Editor also will be a linchpin in managing members of the games team, including both editors & writers. Youll help them set & reach their own goals while also aligning with the overall demands of the Polygons games section. Youll also collaborate with writers & editors across our guides, culture, entertainment, curation, commerce, & video teams.

WHO YOU ARE

Our ideal candidate is an empathetic people manager with experience leading teams. Youll be experienced growing editors & writers, leading them to success through thoughtful feedback & mentorship.

You have a vision for the future of video games coverage, & want to match that vision to Polygons style, but also push us forward. Youre knowledgeable about the games space, but always curious about whats new & different.

Youre a skilled editor who can help bring the best out of a writers pitch, shape a draft to be more compelling, or put the perfect headline on the finished product.

Youre comfortable with using modern newsroom strategies & tools to help stories find their audiences, like SEO, social & community platforms, & web analytics tools.

Youre organized & arent afraid of an editorial calendar. You like to spend time planning for long-term coverage while also adapting to changing trends as news happens.

Youre collaborative, & comfortable sharing your opinions & feedback respectfully yet directly. You can work not just with your own team, but with other teams & verticals.

If you think you have what it takes, but don't meet every single point in our job posting, please apply with a cover letter to let us know how you believe you can bring your unique skills to the Vox Media team or get in touch! We would love to have a chat & see if you could be a great addition to our team. Weve hired chefs who became editors, DJs who became UX designers, & sommeliers who became writers.
