Were looking for a strategic storyteller & decisive comms leader, someone who thrives in fast-moving environments & understands how to listen to players & make them feel heard around a live service game.

As Editor-in-Chief for VALORANT youll be architecting how we show up to players across the broader ecosystem, in our owned & unowned channels, shaping the stories we tell, how we tell them, & where. The modern Editor-in-Chiefs front page is everywhere our players are, & often, outside of Riot channels. We need to meet players where theyre at.

This role is about setting the story for the game & the team, knowing what players care about before it hits critical mass, & steering both proactive messaging & reactive responses. You'll be responsible for communicating to players & building the long-term trust that keeps our community engaged & inspired; setting the narrative across the entire player experience, from proactive tentpole storytelling to reactive community engagement, spanning dev comms, content, influencers, social, & community.

Youll lead a high-functioning, cross-disciplinary community & comms unit, one that champions our players internally & delivers comms that hit & build long-term trust.

What youll do:

Drive the Player Narrative

  • Own the day-to-day narrative for VALORANT, both proactively & reactively. What should players believe about our game & team today, & what will they believe six months from now?
  • Develop & maintain a clear, year-long comms strategy: what we want players to understand, feel, & say, & how were going to get there.
  • Monitor & triage sentiment risks & trending player conversations before they escalate. Deliver recommendations & act fast.
  • Be THE player advocate, representing the player to the entire studio, advocating for their needs & pain points.

Lead the Ecosystem Strategy

  • Treat the anywhere players talk about VALORANT as the front page, no matter if its a creator podcast, TikTok channel, Twitter conversation, etc. Where our players are, we are.
  • Decide when to speak, where to speak, who speaks, & what we say across owned, earned, & social-first spaces.
  • Partner with devs, producers, & publishing leads to ensure were showing up consistently & impactfully to players.
  • Drive a clear strategy & goals for content creator ecosystem programs & community programs

Owned Content Strategy

  • Act as editor-in-chief of the day to day player experience: Drive day-to-day player journeys in alignment with the vision of the holistic player experience across game, sport, & community on our owned channels
  • Program the overall content experience on owned channels, ranging from Riot Client, VALORANT client, our website, & social channels
  • Develop a content strategy & measurement framework that helps measure the efficacy of our content & resonance with players

Build & Empower the Team

  • Lead a cross-functional team of social, community, influencer, & comms experts, our internal comms newsroom.
  • Develop a clear 2026 Community & Comms strategy that makes it easy for individual crafts to develop their own 2026 plans, aligned to the overall VALORANT Studio strategy
  • Be a coach & unblocker. Elevate your team beyond craft execution into player-first comms thinking & decisions.
  • Foster a fast-moving, decisive, player-obsessed culture that values clarity, accountability, & results.

What were looking for:

  • 10+ years of experience in communications, editorial, community, content strategy, or related disciplines
  • Proven track record of shaping comms for major titles or entertainment properties
  • Deep familiarity with gaming, shooter players, & internet culture, ideally has a deep familiarity with VALORANT
  • Experience working across multiple publishing functions (social, community, PR, etc.), especially in matrixed teams
  • Fast, fluent writing chops, you can draft a tweet in our voice & hit send, or prep a reactive Reddit post that earns trust
  • Sharp, systems thinker with an eye for emerging risks, sentiment trends, & player dynamics
  • Experience managing teams & stakeholders through ambiguous, high-stakes moments
  • Ability to prioritize ruthlessly, especially under pressure

Bonus points for:

  • Experience in competitive gaming or esports environments
  • History of building strong relationships with dev teams, helping them communicate more authentically
  • Comfortable representing the product to leadership, players, & partners alike

For this role, you'll find success through craft expertise, a collaborative spirit, & decision-making that prioritizes the delight of players. We will be looking at your past studies, experience, & your personal relationship with games. If you embody player empathy & care about players' experiences, this could be your role
