The Role

BuzzFeed is looking for a sharp, strategic, & culture-obsessed Managing Editor to execute editorial partnerships with major streaming platforms. This is a full-time, hybrid role where youll shape the voice, formats, & creative direction around our streaming content highlighting everything from blockbuster franchises, to Sunday night prestige dramas, to guilty pleasure reality TV. In short, youll help readers figure out what to watch & why it matters.

This role is equal parts creative strategist & tactical executor. Youll oversee a small team of freelancers & work across teams to hit internal & external goals, making sure all content delivers in quality & performance. Youre comfortable managing calendars & contributors, & navigating feedback from brand stakeholders. (Youre also not afraid to write posts yourself if no one else can nail the tone!)

Were looking for a strong editorial collaborator with a deep understanding of the entertainment ecosystem, a feel for the data behind what performs, & a pulse on what audiences care about now & what they'll care about next.

We are looking for candidates who are primarily located near our Los Angeles & New York City offices.

You Will

• Lead the editorial vision & day-to-day execution of high-profile streaming partnerships
• Use BuzzFeeds classic formats (lists, quizzes, explainers, reactions, interviews) & evolve them into something new: the modern episode recap or entertainment feature, a serialized deep dive, or a highly-sharable thinkpiece or TikTok
• Cultivate a network of sharp, funny, culturally in-tune freelancers & contributors
• Collaborate with editorial, social, & audience teams to make sure content reaches the right people in the right ways
• Identify zeitgeisty moments that are taking off from TikTok to Reddit to the deepest pockets of the internet & translate them into posts that feed the obsession without alienating a broader audience
• Track performance to goals, adapt strategy, & contribute content yourself when needed
• Stay ahead of entertainment trends, streamer strategy shifts, release calendars, & cultural moments before they peak

You Have

• 5+ years of experience in digital media or entertainment writing/editing, with a strong track record of performance, voice, & turning content into conversations & shares
• Excellent editorial judgment: you can spot an angle, build a format, & understand what makes a piece feel BuzzFeed
  
• Experience managing editorial workflows, calendars, & freelancers & the ability to think strategically but move quickly.
• A flexible & forward-thinking mindset when it comes to using tech & tools (including AI) to work smarter, move faster, & unlock new creative possibilities
• Deep fluency in streaming culture & a love of internet culture & fandoms on platforms like TikTok & Reddit you know when a show is peaking, when a fandom is spiraling, & when an interview quote deserves its own post
• Slightly highbrow taste, but you're not above becoming spiritually invested in a messy polyamorous throuple on the latest & greatest reality show
