About the job

This position is needed to power the future of customer engagement. Twilio Engage combines Segment, SendGrid, & Twilio into a single product, enabling marketers to create omnichannel, hyper-personalized experiences at every step of the customer engagement lifecycle. We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to help build & maintain the next phase of the Twilio Engage product.

Responsibilities

In this role, youll:

  • Build & maintain the services for the next phase of Twilio Engage.
  • Work with a team of engineers through difficult architectural trade-offs.
  • Collaborate on detailed design documents & action plans for features slated for development.
  • Mentor engineers earlier in their careers on technical matters great & small.
  • Support strategic technical initiatives that impact the entire engineering organization.
  • Rapidly acquire new technical skills & knowledge in a fast-paced, high-delivery environment.
  • Manage your work through the use of Github, Jira, & our build/deploy systems.
  • Demonstrate strong engagement in the team setting
  • Be able to respond to high-priority incidents

Required:

  • Minimum 7+ years of full-stack development experience with a focus on writing production-grade code in modern programming languages.
  • Proficiency in JavaScript, Node.js, TypeScript, React (or similar frameworks), & CSS.
  • Solid experience in backend development, particularly with Node.js, & familiarity with server-side frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to craft APIs, understanding the critical role of a good API contract in UI development.
  • Extensive experience owning & operating services end-to-end, from requirements gathering & design to debugging, testing, release management, & operational monitoring.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to assemble & lead cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading development teams, especially in cross-geographical setups, with skills in managing, mentoring, & growing teams remotely.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale projects from inception to deployment, particularly focusing on user onboarding & engagement.
  • Excellent collaborator with the ability to foster alignment cross-functionally & cross-organizationally.
  • Exceptional communication skills for effectively collaborating with team members across different locations & leading technical discussions with stakeholders.
  • Strong ability to architect scalable, performant, & responsive web applications with a focus on enhancing the end-user experience.
  • Proficiency in strategic project planning & execution, aligning technical objectives with business goals.
  • Expertise in implementing robust testing strategies, including unit, integration, & end-to-end tests, to ensure high-quality software delivery.
  • Ability to work non-standard, on-call rotation weekend & holiday hours, shared evenly with all engineers on the team, demonstrating responsibility for code maintenance & operational performance.

Desired:

  • Passion for partnering with design to create impactful customer experiences rather than just implementing designs. Experience collaborating with UX/UI designers to translate designs into functional user interfaces.
  • Experience with at least one of GraphQL or REST. Familiarity with Twilio APIs & products, or similar cloud communication platforms, is highly desirable. 
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines & automated deployment processes.
  •  Experience working on high-scale web applications & understanding architecture patterns for success, such as well-designed APIs & efficient algorithms.
  • Experience working with diverse teams & sensitivity to cross-cultural dynamics. Highly effective collaborator, able to work well with team members & partners in product & design towards common goals.
  • Familiarity with analytics & monitoring tools to measure & improve user onboarding flows.

Location

This role is Remote - India

Travel
