Hi, we're Oscar. We're hiring a Associate Tax Director to join our Finance team.

About the role

The Associate Director, Tax leads income tax compliance including tax provisions under Generally Accepted Accounting principles (GAAP) & Statutory reporting, federal, state & local tax returns, & tax planning & projects.  The Associate Director, Tax supports the Tax leadership team in developing department strategy.

You will report to the Director, Tax.

If you live within commutable distance to our New York City office ( in Hudson Square), our Tempe office (off the 101 at University Ave), or our Los Angeles office (in Marina Del Rey), you will be expected to come into the office at least two days each week. Otherwise, this is a remote / work-from-home role.

Pay Transparency:

The base pay for this role in the states of California, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, & Washington is: $158,400 - $207,900 per year. The base pay for this role in all other locations is: $142,560 - $187,110 per year. You are also eligible for employee benefits, participation in Oscars unlimited vacation program & annual performance bonuses.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the annual & quarterly tax GAAP & Statutory tax provision processes & lead the related internal & external relationships necessary to support these processes. 
  • Review U.S. federal, state, & local tax returns & estimates for the corporate holding companies & insurance subsidiaries & manage our relationship with external consultants on this work. 
  • Ensure integrity of tax accounting & compliance results using technology solutions, partnering with the Finance Transformation Team & the Companys external vendors.
  • Manage tax responses to audits & notices & the related correspondence with internal & external parties. 
  • Ensure compliance with indirect tax compliance functions. 
  • Lead the preparation of financial data & analysis to support tax forecasting & projects. 
  • Partner with areas of Finance & the business to address tax issues & meet organizational objectives.   
  • Stay abreast & educate others on developments within the insurance tax area & their implications to the Company.  
  • Help develop & implement tax strategies & planning opportunities. 
  • Automate processes to streamline tax compliance & provide analytical insights. 
  • Compliance with all applicable laws & regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree (Accounting is preferred), or 4 years commensurate experience.
  • 7+ years of tax experience in a public accounting firm or equivalent experience in a corporate tax department. 
  • Proficient in using code & regulations.
  • Knowledge in ASC 740. 
  • 3+ years experience as a team leader.

Bonus Points

  • CPA and/or Masters of Taxation. 
  • Statement of Statutory Accounting Principle (SSAP) 101 reporting.
  • Knowledge of domestic tax issues affecting U.S. insurance companies. 
  • Experience implementing tax provision software. 
  • Work with large datasets to build models & use tools. 
  • Experience with state tax nexus considerations.

Pay Transparency: 

Final offer amounts, within the base pay set forth above, are determined by factors including your relevant skills, education, & experience.
