As Director, Product Analytics you will manage a team responsible for using analytics to make data-informed decisions & incorporate data throughout the product development process. This person should be equally comfortable diving into large datasets to extract insights, documenting metric frameworks, collaborating with stakeholders, as well as communicating insights & clear recommendations.

The Product Analytics team is part of a growing Analytics Department that consists of SEO, Product Analytics, Newsroom Analytics, Social Audience Development, & Data Science. Our mission is to use data to help Vox Media grow our audiences & businesses.

This role reports to the VP, SEO & Product Analytics.


  • Partner with product, engineering, design leadership & other stakeholders to align data & analytics with business goals & product development process. 
  • Lead deep dive & ad-hoc analyses that expose key user behaviors & opportunities for product enhancement or development.
  • Work with the Consumer Revenue teams to identify opportunities to improve our tactics for growing our subscriber base for New York Magazine & Vox Contributions.
  • Partner with Consumer Revenue teams to test & measure paywall & registration wall strategies.
  • Deliver clear, concise, & data-informed recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Develop reports, dashboards, & tools to democratize insights to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Manage a team of analysts responsible for partnering with Product to define KPIs that indicate success, develop reporting & dashboards, & manage our analytics implementation across Vox Media.
  • Manage the team that ensures our data collection is optimal, up to date, & in sync with product enhancements & features. Youll work to define technical implementation specifications that are resilient, & consistent with our larger implementation plan.
  • Partner with our Data Engineering team to ensure our data pipelines & models support our requirements for analytics & reporting
  • Collaborate with other disciplines in Analytics: Social Audience Development, Newsroom Analytics, SEO, & Data Science.


  • Minimum 6 years of experience in Product and/or Data Analytics
  • Experience managing a team either directly or indirectly
  • Comfortable analyzing & manipulating data with high-quality SQL
  • A point of view on A/B testing & using data for product optimization on an agile schedule
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills
  • Manage multiple tracks of work at once, balancing both short-term & long-term projects simultaneously
  • Curiosity to discover opportunities, explain them, & follow through on solutions
  • Experience in Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics or similar event-based analytics system

Bonus points if:

  • Fluent in writing Python to extract, manipulate, & analyze data
  • Worked with one or more of dbt, BigQuery, Looker, Hex
  • Experience using Google Tag Manager (or a similar tool) to instrument data collection for web analytics

This job is located in NYC, DC, or remote in states where Vox Media can authorize employment.
