We are looking for a Senior Engineer I who is passionate about building scalable, intuitive, & reliable billing solutions. 

As a Senior Engineer I on the Billing Engineering Team at DigitalOcean, you will join a dynamic team dedicated to revolutionizing cloud computing & delivering a seamless, trustworthy billing experience to our customers. Youll report to the Engineering Manager of Billing Engineering & work closely with teams across Finance, Product, & Engineering to ensure that our billing platform remains accurate, transparent, & highly available. The ideal candidate is deeply empathetic toward customers, embraces continuous learning, & is driven to build simple yet powerful billing systems.

What Youll Do:

• Design, build, & maintain scalable services, APIs, & workflows that support DigitalOceans billing platform.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define & implement new billing features, ensuring financial accuracy & compliance.
• Leverage technologies such as Go, gRPC, Kubernetes, Kafka, Grafana, Temporal, MySQL, & Redis.
• Create tooling & self-service capabilities to empower internal stakeholders & streamline processes.
• Contribute to continuous improvements in CI/CD workflows, performance, & developer experience within the billing ecosystem.

What Youll Add to DigitalOcean:

• Proven experience in designing, building, & maintaining scalable, highly performant systems.
• Strong proficiency in Go (Golang); experience with Ruby is a plus.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems & microservice architecture, especially with Docker, Kubernetes, gRPC, Kafka, & MySQL.
• Familiarity with modern CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, & observability best practices.
• Excellent collaboration & communication skills, with a passion for cross-functional teamwork.
• A growth mindset & a customer-first attitude, with a track record of learning & adapting continuously.

• We reward our employees. The salary range for this position is $145,000 - $170,000 based on market data, relevant years of experience, & skills. You may qualify for a bonus in addition to base salary; bonus amounts are determined based on company & individual performance. We also provide equity compensation to eligible employees, including equity grants upon hire & the option to participate in our Employee Stock Purchase Program.
