Shift: Monday - Friday 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Were hiring a Packaging Engineer to join our world-class team here at HelloFresh. Reporting to the Senior Category Manager, Packaging & Indirect, you will support both the day-to-day operations & long-term strategy initiatives for the Packaging team. This is an exciting time to join our packaging team as we are investing in the team more than ever with this brand new role & also a new internal Packaging laboratory. Lettuce share what this role will be responsible for

• Work with vendors & the Procurement team to test & qualify packaging designs to expand the Packaging supply chain to enable top-line box growth.
• Coordinate testing with an external lab & our HF US lab while building our own local testing lab capacity here in Canada.
• Manage the planning & execution of packaging testing out of the Packaging Laboratory once its up & running ( requiring 2 days a week working from the lab in Mississauga, ON)
• Responsible for packaging lab upkeep & equipment calibration & maintenance
• Oversee thermodynamic testing to validate & qualify cold chain packaging systems
• Test packaging components & modify as necessary to meet functional parameters, cost targets, fulfillment, & shipping requirements
• Complete & communicate test reports to Packaging Procurement team, as well as cross functionally.
• Help provide packaging solutions to HelloFreshs innovative launch of new products, services offerings, & expansion into new categories & markets.
• Conduct technical & scientific tests to gain further insights into packaging strategies, packaging material(s) comparison, & various other ad-hoc packaging research & development projects.
• Redevelop & maintain our ice matrix & upsizing logic
• Work with vendors to obtain packaging material specifications & manage internal specification process of documentation

Sound a-peeling? Here's what we're looking for

• 2-4 years of relevant work experience in packaging engineering/science.
• Undergraduate degree in Packaging Science, Engineering, or other relevant area of study. 
• Strong passion for packaging science
• Proven technical expertise in packaging materials testing, most notably in ISTA-certified testing methodologies,  gained through industry experience
• Proactive, ambitious, & assertive: you take ownership of your work & think beyond the scope of a given assignment
• An entrepreneurial mindset & a passion for solving complex problems
• Ability to work with ambiguous or abstract concepts/information & synthesize options for HelloFresh & our management to incorporate into future decision making.
• Excellent excel & analytical skills to create various databases & spreadsheets
• Experience with end to end R&D & packaging innovation projects
• General knowledge of or interest in learning more about fast-paced startup and/or the food & beverage industry
