Hi, we're Oscar. We're hiring a Business Intelligence Engineer II to join our Data team.

About the role

The Business Intelligence Engineer II will assess & optimize Oscar's Business Intelligence platform, which includes Looker & dbt on BigQuery. You will bridge the gap between business requirements & technical design, ensuring the platform is both user-friendly & high-performing.

You will report to the Associate Director, Analytics Engineering.

If you live within commutable distance to our New York City office (in Hudson Square), our Tempe office (off the 101 at University Dr), or our Los Angeles office (in Marina Del Rey), you will be expected to come into the office at least two days each week. Pay Transparency:

The base pay for this role is: $119,200-$156,450 per year. You are also eligible for employee benefits, participation in Oscar's unlimited vacation program, company equity grants, & annual performance bonuses.

Responsibilities

  • Champion development best practices for Looker development.
  • Scope CI/CD tools, automation, processes & guidelines to ensure adherence.
  • Level-up our existing dashboard infrastructure, partnering with developers to improve dashboard usability, visualization, & query performance.
  • Lead the maintenance, optimization & expansion of our Business Intelligence platform (Looker) & LookML semantic layer.
  • Partner with stakeholders to expand BI content areas, taking in business requirements, maintaining alignment, & delivering performant, scalable products that meet our end-user needs.
  • Scale our business intelligence stack by improving query performance, overseeing the administration, supporting duties necessary to service the developers & end-users of our platform, & finding opportunities to build tools & automation to reduce the amount of inbound requests.
  • Develop an in-depth understanding & expertise of Oscar's analytics technologies, contributing to the continuous improvement of Oscar's analytics ecosystem.
  • Provide training & mentorship to empower data scientists & data engineers, to promote a culture of excellence in business intelligence & encourage skill development.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in Analytics Engineering, Business Intelligence, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience working with a variety of database languages, including SQL, DDL & DML with demonstrated ability to efficiently transform data & databases.
  • 3+ years of experience working with a variety of business intelligence platforms, such as Looker, Tableau, PowerBI, or others.
  • 2+ years of experience developing in a semantic modeling language (e.g. LookML).
  • 1+ years of experience working with & presenting to non-technical stakeholders.
  • 1+ years experience with Python or another OOP/scripting language.

Bonus Points

  • Experience integrating DBT & Looker (or equivalent ETL-to-BI integration).
  • Experience working with healthcare data, analytics, & reporting.
  • Experience with GCP.
  • A background in healthcare and/or insurance.
  • Experience communicating updates & resolutions to technical & non-technical end users, exhibited through at least 1 project or initiative

Pay Transparency:  Final offer amounts, within the base pay set forth above, are determined by factors including your relevant skills, education, & experience.
