Galway Office 

Rent The Runway established its European Technology Hub in Galway in April 2019.  Based in the historic Claddagh area of the city, the growing team in Galway tackles core technology challenges & influences the next generation of services critical to Rent The Runways success & continued growth. 

The Galway office is Rent the Runway's first international office outside the US & enables the company to significantly expand its Software Engineering, Product Development, Machine Learning Engineering & Data Science footprint. Our Quality Engineering team thinks like our users, partnering with our Software Engineers to build features that create a seamless experience for our customers. Operating as a central QE department, with team members working as subject matter experts for our agile product teams, we embed best practices & effective processes across the Technology & Product organisation. The purpose of this role is to identify opportunities to streamline our processes & improve code quality & the user experience through automation. 

About the Role:

As we embark on our journey of continuously improving & building out our automation capability, RTR is looking for an Engineer to lead & guide multiple test automation efforts; improve our build, deploy, & test workflows; increase confidence in our systems & mitigate risk through automation. Knowledge of software testing methodologies, automation best practices, & software development life cycle (SDLC) will support further efficiencies in our engineering teams. 

You will have experience working with teams of engineers, as an Automation Engineer, & leading automation initiatives; you are detail-oriented, understand application development methodologies & want to apply your technical skills to build out automated test systems & deployment pipelines.

What Youll Do:

  • Design, develop & execute automation scripts using open source tools (Jest & Cypress.io), debugging & defining corrective actions for a complex microservices system
  • Translate business requirements into detailed, comprehensive & well-structured test plans & test cases. Estimate, prioritise, plan & coordinate quality testing activities
  • Decompose the system to test services & existing functionality in isolation & also perform larger end-to-end tests
  • Develop & improve our test automation frameworks by leveraging cloud infrastructure & implementing the necessary CI/CD pipelines
  • Improve our deployment approval processes to allow for automated testing & deployments to testing, pre-Production & production environments - create & help improve these environments.
  • Partner with the Engineering teams, to review quality specifications & technical design documents to provide timely & meaningful risk assessment & feedback
  • Ensure detailed reporting to provide assessment of product quality to project stakeholders & track quality assurance metrics, e.g. defect densities & open defect counts

About You:

  • Multi-stack engineer with 7+ years experience in a breadth of development technologies & test automation frameworks - Specifically focussed on Modern JavaScript & associated tools (React, Jest, Cypress.io, Typescript); with knowledge of Java & related test automation frameworks a plus.
  • Experience with RESTful APIs & Asynchronous Communication (AMQP, RabbitMQ), preferably in a microservices architecture environment.
  • Experience with non-functional & load testing frameworks (Gatling, JMeter, Flood.io/Element)
  • Experience creating & maintaining CI/CD Pipelines, preferably GitHub Actions, & integrating the automated testing suites in the pipeline
  • Good understanding & experience with cloud & containerization principles (Docker, Kubernetes, Google Cloud Platform).
  • Solid analytical skills to troubleshoot problems & find areas for improvement - experience with logging frameworks & tools (e.g. Splunk, Loggly), monitoring & APM tools (e.g. SignalFX, New Relic, Datadog)
