Peloton is looking for a Principal Software Engineer who will drive the architecture of our homegrown e-commerce platform & help scale our online business. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of designing & delivering e-commerce solutions. 

As a lead architect, you will be the primary driver of breaking out our monolith into suitable services & engineering the next generation of the platform. Youll use your leadership skills to gain alignment amongst your peers on various architectural decisions.

In This Role, You Will

Play a senior technical leadership & architect role in the organization serving as the interface between the business & the technology team. As an architect, you will be responsible for the quality of the architecture of the platform. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead by example & serve as a role model for the company
  • Actively maintain & build a culture of learning, respect, transparency, & trust
  • Cultivate a deep understanding of our e-commerce business
  • Own technical road mapping for multiple quarters to a year of our core platform
  • Define the architectural vision & technical direction of our e-commerce platform
  • Facilitate & lead the e-commerce architecture review board
  • Design, develop & support an agile architecture that can evolve without over-engineering, promoting simplicity & working software
  • Align our technology with the goals of the business & strategic objectives
  • Document & maintain architectural diagrams, coding standards, best practices, policies, & principles
  • Ensure teams are moving toward our target architecture & future state design
  • Coach engineers in architecture skills & thinking
  • Collaborate closely with product management & technical program managers
  • Engage in discussions with senior management representing our technology & teams
  • Identify & vet the proposal for new technologies
  • Facilitate technical discussions across teams & organizations
  • Hands-on development & review of technical designs & implementations
  • Manage & identify organizational-wide risk
  • Mentor & upskill engineers from diverse backgrounds
  • Partner with our SRE & infrastructure teams to scale & monitor our services

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years of experience as lead/architect 
  • Excellent communication, listening, & collaboration skills 
  • Track record of technical leadership via collaboration, mentorship, & leveling up teams
  • Proven experience & subject matter expertise in e-commerce
  • Significant experience with SOA/microservices & event-driven architectures
  • Experience leading at least one complex migration from monolith to microservices
  • Expert understanding of object-oriented, functional programming, & database design
  • Expert understanding of domain & data modeling
  • Comprehensive experience in cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, etc), Kubernetes, end-to-end monitoring, & API security
  • Experience with multiple database engines, both relational & non-relational
  • Experience with Restful API design, GraphQL, Load balancing concepts; Communication & RPC protocols such as HTTP, TCP, gRPC
  • Ability to create analysis & quick prototypes for different implementation alternatives
  • Strong understanding of Agile, Lean, & DevOps principles
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to scope & assess the risk of large development & testing efforts that span multiple teams & organizations
  • Ability to say NO, respectfully challenge ideas, & be professional at all times
  • Empathy with users, customers, stakeholders, & other engineers
  • Experience in a high-paced, high-growth environment working with deadlines & milestones
  • Comfortable with ambiguity; you enjoy figuring out what needs to be done

  • Attend meetups, conferences, & participate in the software engineering community
  • Contribute to open-source projects or have a hobby project you can demonstrate
  • Experience with or knowledge of DDD, CQRS, & Event Sourcing
