Newsela is seeking to hire a Contractor based out of Latin America for Senior-Level Product Design Services. 

 Scope of Services: 

• This Contractor will own the design experience of the products within Newsela that help empower our content creators to develop the content teachers & students use. We're accelerating the evolution of these tools to help create different types of high-quality content, the type Newsela is well known for.
• Understand & articulate user & business problems, & propose a range of thoughtful & creative design solutions.
• Execute designs based on a strong understanding of current UX/UI best practices & expertise using industry-standard design tools/programs, always ensuring accessibility considerations are addressed.
• Reporting to the Director of Product Design, you will partner closely with Design, Product, Engineering, UX Research, Data, Content, & Marketing to align on problems, define solutions, & ensure feasibility, by following our user-centric product design vision & culture.
• Own the design execution, build trust, & have a learn continuously mindset.

Skills / Experience: 

• You have 5+ years of experience as a Product Designer working with complex user & business problems.
• You understand feature requirements & tech constraints, to create simple, engaging, & scalable experiences.
• You have demonstrated success in approaching patterns holistically & thinking about the larger experience. 
• You have a strong understanding of web & mobile-web platform technologies, & you keep in mind accessibility. You know when to use broad-stroke sketches, use a design system, or when to apply pixel-perfect attention to detail.
• You can leverage your knowledge of user pain points & goals, informed by research (quantitative & qualitative) to inform your design direction to effectively document your decision & specifications. 
• You can provide & receive actionable feedback from a cross-functional team & understand the value of working cross-functionally & have a collaborative mindset. 
• You partner with Product Management, Engineering, UX Research, Data, Content, & Marketing to define problems, align on solutions, & ensure feasibility through workshops to coordinate on process to soliciting feedback at all stages of the product life cycle.
• You have experience working in Figma
• You understand the value of a Design System & have collaborated & worked in one
• While not required, knowledge of Motion Design or animation done using Adobe After Effects would be a plus.
