About the job

This position is needed to partner with Product, Engineering & Marketing teams to support the product development lifecycle & provide practical advice to ensure compliance with applicable law, regulations & privacy by design best practices.

Responsibilities

In this role, youll:

  • Lead global privacy review of new products, product features & other product-related matters to ensure compliance with privacy & data protection laws.
  • Support Twilios global privacy program by developing & improving privacy frameworks & processes to ensure we meet our obligations under global privacy laws.
  • Collaborate with other legal stakeholders & product teams to develop creative & scalable solutions to novel, complex privacy issues;
  • Draft & negotiate data protection agreements with customers, suppliers, carriers & other third parties, including Data Processing Agreements & Business Associate Agreements.
  • Work with suppliers, customers & business stakeholders to understand data flows to determine privacy & data protection risks & solutions.
  • Support various areas of the business in evaluating the impact of privacy laws, regulatory guidance, enforcement actions & other obligations on new & existing processes & internal tools.
  • Provide expert privacy guidance & support as part of Twilios Incident Response Process.

Required:

  • Qualified to practice law & in good standing in US, UK other common law jurisdiction or EU member state
  • 8 + years relevant legal experience at a law firm or in house
  • Experience in conducting complex product assessments to determine compliance with applicable data protection regulations & principles;
  • Knowledge of global privacy laws, regulations, privacy programs & industry standards
  • Detail oriented, self-starter with a desire to solve problems & excels at building collaborative working relationships across multiple teams/countries;
  • Strong verbal & written communication skills, excellent organizational skills & a sense of initiative.

Desired:

  • Interest in unique privacy & regulatory considerations as they relate to the use of AI & machine learning in product & operations-related processes
  • Experience with Telco requirements & HIPAA
  • Experience advising on employment privacy, both in & outside of the US
  • At least one IAPP certification

Location

This role will be remote but is not eligible to be hired in San Francisco, CA, Oakland, CA, San Jose, CA, or the surrounding areas.

*Please note this role is open to candidates outside of Colorado, California, New York, & Washington. The information below is provided for candidates hired in those locations only.

The estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows:

  • Based in Colorado: $180,880 - $226,100.
  • Based in New York, Washington State, or California (outside of the San Francisco Bay area): $191,520 - $239,400.
  • Based in the San Francisco Bay area, California: $212,800 - $266,000.
  • This role may be eligible to participate in Twilios equity plan. All roles are eligible for the following benefits: health care insurance, 401(k) retirement account, paid sick time, paid personal time off, paid parental leave.

The successful candidates starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, & geographic location within the state.
