About the role:

Sr. Analyst, Benefits Strategy & Operations are responsible for activities designed to improve the consistency, accuracy, & efficiency of benefits administration at Oscar. You will accomplish this by supporting the development of coverage policies & configuration rules, conducting root-cause analyses on benefit set-up issues, developing impact analysis for proposed configuration changes, & providing insights on industry best practices.

Collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders on projects involving plan benefit design & configuration, supporting the development of business requirements & configuration strategies. By understanding Oscars platform & configuration capabilities, you will be able to identify challenges & opportunities with respect to new benefit designs & configuration requirements.

In this role, you will support all Oscar states & clients, working closely alongside other Oscar teams, including Legal, Clinical, Compliance, Finance, Data, Actuarial, Plan Design, Claims, Product & Engineering.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Assist in the identification, design & documentation of standardized tools & workflows to improve the consistency, accuracy & efficiency of benefit configuration.
  • Assist in plan build & benefit configuration activities across projects.
  • Ensure benefit design requirements & business rules are documented & translated into configuration requirements.
  • In partnership with Plan Design, Insurance Operations, & technology teams, ensure alignment with business decisions & technical & operational capabilities.
  • Research industry standards, statutory/regulatory requirements, & internal technical & operational capabilities, analyze & synthesize findings, & translate into actionable insights to support benefit policy development.
  • Review & interpret Evidences of Coverage, Certificates of Coverage, & other documents containing plan design & coverage information, using these inputs to help formulate plan build & configuration requirements.
  • Perform root-cause analysis on benefit set-up issues, develop solutions in collaboration with stakeholders, & report outcomes to leadership

You will report to the Director of Benefits Configuration. This is a remote role, you are able to work remotely in one of the following states: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, or Washington. Note, this list of states is subject to change.

Required education & experience

  • 3+ years of managed care/health insurance experience.
  • Working knowledge of health plan benefit concepts in the individual and/or small group markets.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint and/or comparable programs within the Google Docs Editors suite (e.g., Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides). 

Preferred education & experience

  • Demonstrated ability to use analytics tools to answer your own questions (e.g., SQL/Python)
  • Experience developing formal policies and/or documenting business requirements.
  • Working knowledge of benefit configuration and/or health insurance claims adjudication concepts.
