WHAT YOULL DO
News is the beating heart of The Verge, & were looking for a talented News Writer to keep it running. As a News Writer, you will join a team of reporters who race to publish the sharpest angles & best analysis on the essential tech news of the day. Our News Writers form the front line of The Verges editorial operation, keeping our savvy audience informed & delighted.
Daily responsibilities include:
- Gathering stories from news feeds & spotting breaking news on key Verge coverage areas
- Participating in our newsroom as we vet stories & identify angles, & picking up assignments promptly
- Writing & publishing a wide range of news across consumer technology, tech policy, transportation, & science
- Supporting production of tentpole Verge events coverage, including Google IO, Apple hardware events, & more
WHO YOU ARE
Candidates should have a fierce passion for consumer technology news; you should feel a constant need to know whats happening in the world of platforms & gadgets, & a desire to deliver the best story before anyone else. Were looking for someone excited to watch news feeds, vet stories, & deliver news hits that match sharp headlines & angles with thoughtful, accurate context. Working with our Senior News Editor, you'll utilize your keen editorial news judgment to quickly turn around timely stories.
Ideal candidates will come with writing experience within a fast-paced newsroom environment. The ability to identify & write a great story angle & lede is a must. When youre not running news feeds, youll also be responsible for writing news stories.
Qualifications:
- Experience writing & publishing fast-breaking stories
- Prior experience as a news writer in a fast-moving digital news environment
- The ability to transform complex ideas into interesting & understandable stories, with an eye toward the audiences interests & needs
- An ability to connect the dots taking a technology or internet culture story from something abstract to something tangible
- A love for breaking news
Passion for The Verges core coverage areas of technology & science
