The Role

As a Staff Backend Engineer, you will drive the technical vision & execution for the intelligent systems that power personalized experiences across our global brands. Youll be part of a team that owns the platform layer that delivers tailored recommendations, dynamic content, & individualized customer journeys at scale. As we prepare to scale our menu by 10x & more, you will build the backbone for hyper-personalization, as well as design & deploy the personalization models & services that drive engagement across our global customer base. You will serve as a technical leader & mentor, fostering engineering excellence while collaborating with senior stakeholders to align our technical strategy with business objectives.

What you'll do 

• Lead the architecture, design, & technical strategy for complex microservices systems, establishing patterns & best practices across multiple teams 
• Drive technical decision-making & architectural reviews, ensuring scalability, reliability, & maintainability of platform systems 
• Mentor & coach engineers across the organization, fostering technical growth & promoting engineering excellence 
• Lead critical technical initiatives & cross-team projects, collaborating with engineering leadership & cross-functional partners to align technical strategy with business objectives

What you'll bring 

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience with deep expertise in microservices & distributed event-driven architectural patterns 
• Expert-level proficiency in Go, PHP, and/or JVM languages
• Proven track record of leading large-scale technical projects & driving architectural decisions in complex distributed systems 
• Advanced experience with Docker, Kubernetes, & cloud-native architectures, including production operations at scale
• Extensive experience building event-driven architectures using message bus technologies (Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS/SNS, etc.) 
• Deep expertise with database technologies (relational and  NoSQL), including performance optimization, schema design, & operational best practices 
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers & drive technical standards across teams 
• Excellent communication & collaboration skills, with experience working with senior stakeholders & distributed teams
• GraphQL experience for client-backend integration is a plus
