About the Role

We are looking for a full-time Food Safety & Quality Assurance (FSQA) Manager at our Ready-to-Eat meals manufacturing facility in Mississauga. Reporting to the Director of FSQA, you will lead the practice of maintaining the highest level of food safety & quality of our products while working in close collaboration with the site Operations team as well as cross functional stakeholders. This role will be based on-site.

What you will be doing:

  • Manage & lead FSQA Team (2-4 salaried direct reports & a group of hourly FSQA Technicians & Quality Control Associates) including hiring & performance management.
  • Provide FSQA team members site operation leads with necessary training, tools, & direction on food safety & quality issues.
  • Work in close collaboration with colleagues in Procurement, Production & FSQA across the to ensure smooth operation of weekly production, fulfillment & delivery.
  • Responsible for leading, development, maintenance, & implementation of HACCP program along with implementation of food safety & quality policies / procedures required for GFSI audit standards (BRC / SQF).
  • Be at the forefront of monitoring & tracking KPIs for trends, themes, & opportunities for improvement & implement pragmatic solutions.
  • Perform root cause analyses surrounding non-compliances, process/CCP deviations & customer complaints to determine corrective actions & preventive measures to be taken.
  • Prepare the team on-site for third-party audits & regulatory inspections & act as point of contact for CFIA & local regulatory inspectors.
  • Lead & support local, national & global strategic FSQA initiatives, driving continuous improvement initiatives at all levels, including upstream with approved suppliers.

At a minimum, you have: 

  • Post-secondary education in Biological or Food Sciences or related field of study
  • At least 4 years experience in a high risk food manufacturing environment with proven experience in managing a high performing team.
  • Strong knowledge of federal & local government regulations with strong familiarity of the SFCA/R highly regarded.
  • In depth knowledge of food safety systems & HACCP principles & experience implementing & maintaining HACCP plans in RTE/high risk production environment.
  • Background in food microbiology is a major asset.
  • Data driven approach towards problem solving.
  • Internal & external audit experience (CFIA, BRC, SQF).
  • Excellent organizational & time management skills.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal & communication skills
  • Energetic, enthusiastic, committed with a can-do flexible attitude.
