We are seeking a Staff Product Manager, Compute Infrastructure & Hardware to lead the strategy & execution of our core compute offerings. You will be responsible for defining the roadmap & driving innovation for our compute platform, ensuring we deliver powerful, reliable, & cost-effective solutions that meet the evolving needs of our customers. This role requires a solid understanding of the cloud computing landscape, including processor technologies, virtualization, & infrastructure optimization.
What Youll Do:
- Compute Platform Strategy: Develop & champion the long-term vision & strategy for DigitalOcean's compute platform. Define the roadmap for new compute offerings, features, & enhancements, aligning with overall company goals & customer needs.
- Processor Roadmap Expertise: Stay ahead of the curve on processor technologies from Intel, AMD, ARM, & other vendors. Analyze performance benchmarks, cost-efficiency, & emerging trends to inform compute platform decisions.
- Fleet Management & Utilization: Drive initiatives to optimize the efficiency & utilization of our compute infrastructure. Identify opportunities to reduce costs, improve performance, & maximize resource allocation.
- Virtualization & Containerization: Deepen our expertise in virtualization & containerization technologies. Explore & evaluate new technologies to enhance our compute offerings & support evolving customer workloads.
- Performance & Reliability: Champion efforts to ensure the performance, reliability, & scalability of our compute platform. Collaborate with engineering teams to address performance bottlenecks, improve system stability, & enhance the customer experience.
- Cost Optimization: Identify & implement strategies to optimize the cost-efficiency of our compute infrastructure. Analyze pricing models, negotiate with vendors, & drive initiatives to reduce operational expenses.
- Competitive Analysis: Continuously monitor the competitive landscape for compute offerings. Analyze competitor strengths & weaknesses to identify opportunities for differentiation & innovation.
- Customer Collaboration: Engage with customers to understand their compute needs & gather feedback on our offerings. Incorporate customer insights into the product roadmap & prioritize features that deliver maximum value.
- Cross-functional Leadership: Collaborate effectively with engineering, finance, marketing, & sales teams to ensure alignment on compute platform strategy & execution.
Key Metrics:
- Compute Platform Growth: Track the growth & adoption of our compute offerings, including virtual machines, bare metal servers, & container services.
- Infrastructure Efficiency: Monitor key metrics related to infrastructure utilization, cost per unit of compute, & operational efficiency.
What Youll Add to DigitalOcean:
- 8+ Years of Product Management Experience: Proven track record in defining & launching successful compute infrastructure products, ideally within a cloud computing environment.
- Compute Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of CPU architectures (Intel, AMD, ARM), including microarchitectures, instruction sets, & performance characteristics.
- Ability to translate the benefits of different CPU architectures to customer use cases & articulate the value proposition of each offering.
- Datacenter Fundamentals: Familiarity with datacenter design principles, including rack layouts, power distribution, cooling systems, & networking infrastructure.
- Cost Optimization:
- Understanding of server component costs, including CPUs, memory, storage, & networking.
- Ability to analyze & optimize the cost of compute infrastructure at scale.
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Ability to analyze data, derive insights, & make informed decisions to drive product strategy & execution.
- Leadership & Collaboration: Excellent communication & interpersonal skills with the ability to lead & influence cross-functional teams.

- We reward our employees. The salary range for this position is $187,000 - $253,000 based on market data, relevant years of experience, & skills. You may qualify for a bonus in addition to base salary; bonus amounts are determined based on company & individual performance. We also provide equity compensation to eligible employees, including equity grants upon hire & the option to participate in our Employee Stock Purchase Program.
