The Senior Accountant, SEC Reporting & Accounting Policy is a key individual contributor to the success of the Finance Department, responsible for consolidated financial reporting for Appian. The primary purpose of the position will be to take a lead role with respect to the financial aspects of quarterly & annual financial reporting filings with the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC). This position reports to the Director, SEC Reporting & Accounting Policy.

To be successful in this role, you need:

  • To be able to assist in the preparation, review, & timely filing of required reports with the SEC, including Forms 8-K, 10- Q, & 10-K as well as the Annual Report Proxy Statement, & 401(k) financial statements
  • To collaborate with personnel in various corporate departments & other internal/external personnel to coordinate, review, & develop financial data for public release or filing with the SEC
  • To be able to support & coordinate the identification & gathering of financial & disclosure data necessary to fulfill the reporting & filing requirements of the SEC
  • Skills to lead the process for complying with XBRL reporting requirements, including assessing the appropriateness of XBRL
  • The ability to develop the quarterly & annual reporting calendars used to manage the external reporting process
  • To assist with maintaining & documenting compliance with internal controls over financial reporting in accordance with SOX 404 standards
  • To be well-versed in U.S. GAAP, SEC rules & regulations, & specific requirements under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002
  • To possess strong interpersonal & organizational skills

Basic qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in accounting
  • 3+ years of combined public company financial reporting & audit experience or 3+ years of experience within the Controllership organization of a public company
  • Active Certified Public Accountant
