The Senior Manager Benchmarking & Advanced Engineering is responsible for managing the development of next generation solutions for use within the extended Walmart e-commerce fulfillment network (including Walmart sortable, Walmart Non-sortable, Jet Sortable, Jet Fresh, Sams Club, Hayneedle, Shoebuy, etc.). Your ultimate goal is to lower Variable Cost Per Unit (VCPU) & Total Cost Per Unit (TCPU) in order to support the growth of the e-commerce fulfillment network.

Challenges youll be tackling

Assess & build new technologies: You will be assessing & designing new technologies, creating a pipeline of potential solution, effectively managing their evaluation, & driving development of solutions that are more than the sum of their collective parts.

Architect warehouse execution system: You will be responsible for driving innovation through design & development of warehouse execution system. This will enable us to speed up the integration of innovative engineering solutions, incorporate optimization functions/modules, & decouple WMS & WCS functions.

Champion the process of design & technology innovation in e-commerce fulfillment: You will be responsible for establishing an environment that speeds up the innovation cycle of continuous testing & iteration.


Manage the technical research & design of next generation technologies to support the growth of the e-commerce fulfillment network.

Lead the technical assessment of potential suppliers & assist with the selection, use & application of automated processes within the extended Walmart e-commerce fulfillment network. Establish solutions that support the vision for the implementation of cutting edge automated systems & solutions that enable the Walmart e-commerce fulfillment network to meet or exceed corporate goals.

Constantly evaluate & assess new technologies & foster the development of next generation automated solutions that drive Walmart e-commerce growth. Be a corporate leader driving the effort to continuously develop & have world-class fulfilment solutions that position Walmart as the leader in the e-commerce space.

Ensure that technical assistance is provided to the Program Managers, General Managers (GMs), operations team leaders & maintenance personnel through the implementation, start-up & operation of new automation as needed. Aid the GMs & their teams with respect to properly leveraging the investment in automated equipment & overall fulfillment process, as needed. Help raise the technical capabilities of the facilities by assisting in the training of maintenance personnel & operations personnel. Provide training & assistance in writing Standard Operating Practices (SOPs), establishing Lean methodologies, maintenance & service procedures, parameter settings, etc., as needed.

Provide guidance to all individuals as needed sharing experience & broad knowledge of industry technologies, equipment, & material handling solutions as well as lean process flow & continuous improvement tools, to break barriers & unlock the potential of the Fulfillment Engineering Organization.

This position will manage projects & provide guidance to project team members with respect to automated systems & engineering tools when appropriate (for example, but not limited to the following: Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA), Design of Experiments (DOE), Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Design for Six Sigma, design for Mean Time To Repair (MTTR), etc. Sponsor continuous improvement & continuous learning. Lead both internal & external benchmarking to identify opportunity for continuous improvement.

Generate executive presentations, animations, video, business cases & other communication media, as needed, to convey next generation fulfillment technologies to the engineering leadership team to keep them informed of the strategy, plans & future programs.

Serve as an internal Subject Matter Expert (SME) with respect to e-commerce automated systems; evaluating new ideas & concepts & advising Executive Leadership.

Represent Walmart e-commerce by engaging in industry technical events, industry presentations & other industry technical networking events as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Computer Science, Robotics, Automation) & 4-6 years of relevant experience.
  • 2+ years in a managerial/supervisor role, leading research & development engineers.
  • 2+ years experience leading product development/management role in AGV & robotics technology.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Engineering.
  • 4+ years of Managing Teams in a Technical Role, ie. Engineering, Manufacturing or Operations.
