About the Role

The Health & Safety Manager  is responsible for building a safety culture & strong engagement on site, developing & implementing safety programs in partnership site leadership, facilitating safety training, & leading a team of HSE professionals. 

The Health & Safety Manager reports directly to the Sr. Manager, National Health & Safety & indirectly to the Site Director. The Health & Safety Manager oversees a team of Health & Safety Specialist(s), Coordinator(s) & administrators; & works directly with Production Supervisors & Managers to ensure workplace safety is top priority. 

Must be willing to commute to Mississauga, Brampton & Etobicoke on a regular basis.

What you will be doing:

  • Build a strong safety-first culture through employee engagement, strong health & safety management programs, & training 
  • Lead health & safety audits, routine site checks, & closing of compliance gaps to establish high safety standards & compliance with HelloFresh & OHS requirements
  • Partner with site management to proactively identify, assess, analyze, & mitigate job hazards; & establish high effectiveness of controls & processes to eliminate safety risks
  • Engage, motivate, & train employees on safety roles & responsibilities, accountabilities, & processes to maintain a safe workplace
  • Oversee incident investigations, reporting, & management 
  • Lead safety reporting; ensure high transparency & visibility to safety metrics & alerts on site
  • Oversee onboarding & on the job safety training programs for employees & first aids
  • Establish an effective Joint Health & Safety committee
  • Monitor existing & incoming relevant legislation & regulations to ensure the site meets requirements & that health & safety management programs are up to date
  • Work in compliance with OH&S acts & regulations. 
  • Use personal protective & safety equipment & clothing as directed by the employer & report workplace hazards & dangers to the supervisor or employer. 
  • Other duties & responsibilities as assigned

At a minimum, you have: 

  • Completed post-secondary in  Health & Safety, or related field or equivalent work experience 
  • 5+ years of work experience required in Health & Safety
  • Demonstrated experience in providing high quality customer experience, building a safety culture, communicating to get team member buy-in
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to perform administrative tasks with high degree of accuracy
  • Excellent communication skills (written & verbal), including active listening & proofreading
  • Ability to perform at a high level in a fast paced & dynamic work environment
  • Ability to demonstrate good, sound judgment
  • Availability to work weekend schedules & in temperature controlled (its food, so its cold!) facilities
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Suite (Calendar, Gmail, Docs, Sheets), & video conferencing (Hangouts Meet)
