We are looking for a hardware engineer who is passionate about hardware & the software/firmware that enables it.

Reporting to the Manager of Infrastructure Engineering Design, you will qualify & validate hardware utilized across all DigitalOcean products & components & join a team of engineers who have already paved the way for the many tens of thousands of servers in our infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be eager to face new challenges as DigitalOcean continues to scale its data center footprint & explore new technologies to bring to our customers. 


What Youll Do:

  • Work with internal engineers to qualify new hardware & firmware for our fleet
  • Assist in design & validation of new hardware platforms
  • Engage with hardware vendors on bug fixes/updates
  • Improve our existing processes around hardware/firmware qualification

What Well Expect From You:

  • Technical Degree (BS Computer Science/Engineering) or equivalent practical experience 
  • Understanding of x86 server hardware architecture & subsystems. Ideally, youve worked with non-x86 hardware too!
  • Knowledge of configuration management best-practices (we use Ansible & Chef)
  • Comfortable in Linux (or Unix) operating systems. Youll be spending a lot of time working in one!
  • Familiarity with industry standard tooling & functionality. IPMI/Redfish, PXE, UEFI, etc.
  • Experience with version control systems (we use Git) & proficient in at least one programming language (such as Python or Go) 
  • An insatiable passion for hardware, both new & old

  • We reward our employees. The salary range for this position is between $93,000.00 - $104,000.00 based on market data, relevant years of experience, & skills. You may qualify for a bonus in addition to base salary; bonus amounts are determined based on company & individual performance. We also provide equity compensation to eligible employees, including equity grants upon hire & the option to participate in our Employee Stock Purchase Program.
