The Role

BuzzFeed is seeking a Social Media Strategist to support social video publishing strategy for some of BuzzFeeds most beloved brands, focusing on cross-platform video publishing strategy for the BuzzFeedCeleb brand & other social publishing initiatives across teams, brands, & verticals. This position will use data analysis to inform decisions & will collaborate closely with operations & video producers to ensure that our content is being released in the most optimal way across video platforms and building meaningful engagement & connection with fans.

The ideal candidate is obsessed with both publishers & content creators in the pop culture & entertainment space on YouTube, Instagram, & TikTok & would be able to understand & summarize (both creatively & analytically) how & why certain videos blow up where did they take off, what makes them special, why are they worth sharing?

The ideal candidate is:

  • Celeb-obsessed & is familiar with pop culture fandoms, including up-and-coming talent
  • Able to navigate a fast-paced & dynamic work environment with efficiency & maturity while maintaining a standard of brand alignment for all content & accounts
  • Able to collaborate cross-functionally & create a cohesive strategy for the brand across different social platforms

Were looking for a rockstar who is naturally organized & detail-oriented, enthusiastic about social media & all things BuzzFeed   someone who is a data-obsessed self-starter with excellent judgment & communication skills.  

The role will be working West Coast hours (Pacific Time).

You Will

  • Manage content calendars & publish to the BuzzFeedCeleb accounts across social platforms including YouTube, Instagram, & TikTok
  • Collaborate with other members of the social publishing team to build cohesive strategy between video + editorial content on social accounts
  • Manage the social publishing teams partnership with BuzzFeed Studios marketing team
  • Leverage data analytics to interpret content performance into digestible insights that you will share with brand stakeholders
  • Partner with the Content Analytics team to develop & implement strategies & experiments
  • Work hand-in-hand with BuzzFeedCeleb video leads on audience growth best practices
  • Brainstorm & ideate with content producers based on data, strategy, & platform best practices, assist in generating ideas for YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, & more
  • Engage with the BuzzFeedCeleb community across platforms, has an obsession with things people are sharing, liking, recommending & talking about on the internet
  • Acts as an advisor for new initiatives; a respected thought leader to help teams throughout the company crack new content areas & formats
  • Has the foresight to anticipate issues in workflow or content performance & present to manager possible actionable solutions. Able to think outside the day-to-day to find creative scalable solutions (i.e.: work smarter not harder).
  • Create better operational workflows that streamline from content ideation, creation, publishing, & performance analysis across platforms
  • Help maintain the cheery & collaborative BuzzFeed culture with a positive attitudeGuide & manage junior members (fellows) of the team

You Have

  • 2-3 years of experience managing social accounts for major publishers or brands
  • Familiarity with current entertainment & pop culture, particularly Gen Z interests & fandomsSocial media reporting experience & data analysis skills
  • Deep enthusiasm for experimenting with strategy to optimize for key metrics 
  • Native user of TIkTok, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter/X
  • Excellent organizational & written/verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of the digital/social landscape & a proven interest in keeping up to date with the latest conversations & trends
