SoundCloud is looking for a pro-active, collaborative paralegal or legal assistant with a keen interest in music law & technology who holds ambitions to work in the music & technology industries. This is a rare opportunity to work alongside industry leading music lawyers at the cutting edge of digital media. The Role

Based in Berlin or London, the role will take primary responsibility for operational & administrative work within the BALA team & will provide operational legal support to the team across a wide range of projects, including negotiations with record labels, music publishers & collecting societies in Europe, the U.S. & globally.  You will be a key member of the team reporting into the Director, BALA, Music based in London & supporting the rest of the BALA Music team in Berlin & the US, including the Senior Vice President & Deputy General Counsel.

You will work cross functionally with various internal teams including Finance, Business Development, & Engineering, Product & Design (EPD), & will proactively identify solutions that help us reach our business objectives. 

You will work alongside a broader BALA team including product counsel, commercial counsel, major label/publisher content licensing lawyers & copyright specialists in a fast paced, energetic & fun atmosphere.  

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Primary responsibility for administrative & operational support within the BALA, Music team, including scheduling meetings, managing legal documentation, preparing presentations & being the point of contact for the team
  • Support the development & refinement of forms & processes to support the team 
  • Carry out legal research & assist with draft legal documents including contracts 
  • Coordinate cross functionally with internal teams to meet our business needs & goals
  • Collaborate with other members of the Business & Affairs team to ensure business needs are met 
  • Report to London-based Director, BALA, Music
  • Support global BALA Music team (in Berlin, London, NYC & Los Angeles) to coordinate SoundClouds music business affairs on a global basis. 
  • Assist with other SoundCloud business & legal affairs team & legal tasks as required
  • Stay informed of industry trends

About You

  • A law degree or GDL/LPC graduate or equivalent
  • Legal, contract administration or paralegal experience
  • Outstanding organisational, administrative & document management skills
  • Strong verbal, written & interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work proactively, independently & reliably on multiple projects
  • Ability to be resourceful, think practically & be solution-oriented
  • Effective time management skills
  • Familiarity with how cloud-based document & database systems are used in a modern business environment
  • An understanding of the digital music rights landscape in the US & Europe
  • Experience of working in a dynamic, fast-paced international environment
  • Strategic thinker & creative problem solver
  • Comfortable dealing with uncertainty & ambiguity
  • Resilient, self-aware & values-driven
  • Fluent in English (German a plus, but by no means essential)
