WHY BOX NEEDS YOU

The Data Transformation team is focusing on building out the vision for the data platform that will power all data products at Box. We would love to add someone who can help lead this vision & architect the data platform.  You are someone who has experience with large distributed systems with a focus on compute workflows, data modeling, & data storage.

WHAT YOULL DO

  • Apply your strong software engineering skills to build platforms & frameworks to enable large scale data processing capabilities in a cost effective way
  • Collaborate with the team to develop & support data applications using Batch Compute & Streaming technologies
  • Partner with the Product Manager(s) & the team members in shaping the Data Platform teams vision, data architecture, SDLC & the roadmap
  • Innovate & curate ideas to further the Data Platform teams portfolio leveraging the Google Cloud Platform
  • Evangelize Data Platforms products & capabilities across Boxs engineering organizations
  • Guide the tenants by evaluating their requirements & provide robust & cost effective solutions
  • Drive initiatives to improve the existing technologies & team processes

WHO YOU ARE

  • You have 4+ years of professional software development experience in an object-oriented or functional programming language, such as Python, Java, Scala, etc.
  • Passion for designing, building, & shipping extraordinary software
  • Strong knowledge of algorithms, data structures, software design principles, & object-oriented programming
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems & multi-threaded programming
  • Experience with Async processing framework/serverless architecture
  • Ability to balance feature work, service ownership, & retirement of technical debt
  • Review & assess the technical feasibility of project requirements & propose innovative solutions
  • Be cognizant of emerging technology trends & find adoption opportunities to improve existing development processes
  • Act as a technical expert & provide guidance to junior engineers on best practices, coding standards, & complex technical issues
  • B.S. / M.S. Computer Science or related disciplines
  • Nice to have experience with:
    • One or more OOP languages such as C++/Java/C#/Scala
    • HDFS, Hadoop M/R, Hive, Kafka, Spark
    • SQL & NoSQL databases.
    • Virtualization/container abstractions and orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker, etc.)
    • GCP (GCS/BigQuery/BigTable)
    • Apache Beam/GCP DataFlow
    • AWS services (S3 / EC2 / EMR / Redshift / DynamoDB)
    • Backend/infrastructure work

You are in an office based role with the expectation of working from the Redwood City Office a minimum of 2x/week.
