About the job

This position is needed to design & engineer AI powered features on Twilios Voice & Communications Intelligence product as part of growing our investment in utilizing artificial intelligence to support communications. The role joins an established team of software & machine learning engineers based in the US & EMEA building these features.

As a Staff Engineer, you'll be a pillar of our engineering team, playing a pivotal role in designing, building, & deploying the next generation of our distributed systems & microservices architecture.

Responsibilities

In this role, youll:

  • Lead the design & development of complex software systems, ensuring high performance, security, & scalability.
  • Translate product & project requirements into clear technical tasks to lead engineers to build.
  • Mentor & provide technical guidance to junior & mid-level engineers, promoting best practices & coding standards.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, & other stakeholders to define software requirements & scope of work.
  • Participate in code reviews & provide constructive feedback to team members.
  • Contribute to architectural decision-making & drive continuous improvement of software development processes.
  • Investigate & resolve complex technical issues, & ensure the quality of software deliverables.
  • Ensure a high operational standard to meet Twilios SLOs & Customers expectations

Qualifications

Required:

  • 8+ years of experience with a proven track record of designing, building, & deploying large, scalable distributed systems & microservices architectures.
  • 7+ years of experience in Java, including advanced concepts like concurrency, multi-threading, & performance optimization. Experience with at least one framework in which you can be called an expert.
  • Proficiency using cloud platforms like AWS, including containerization technologies like Docker & Kubernetes.
  • Expert in developing APIs & RESTful services, who understands how to model APIs & follow an API-First approach.
  • Knowledge of software architecture techniques like domain driven design, microservices, event driven design & hexagonal architecture.
  • Strong understanding of databases & data storage - including relation & document storage & with techniques like query optimization & data modeling principles.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical & non-technical audiences.

Desired:

  • Experience building machine learning powered software & with MLOps
  • Knowledge of telecommunications

Location

This role will be remote, & based in Colombia.

Travel
