Frontend Engineers at Lyft build & own innovative web applications using advanced JavaScript, Typescript, CSS, & HTML, with a desire to achieve exceptional design fidelity, usability, accessibility, & performance across both desktop & mobile browsers.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate your coding & development skills, including reviewing software developed by other engineers
  • Assess the implications associated with design decisions by understanding the end-to-end system architecture
  • Proactively recommend improvements & new approaches to address potential systemic pain points & technical debt
  • Participate in feature design working with product & UX experts
  • Collaborate with technical teams on new & emerging technologies, determining how they will integrate into current & evolving infrastructure
  • Work closely with Product Management on feature definition & Project Management on project schedules
  • Write comprehensive tests of functionality, & ensure that they pass
  • Leave the code in a better state than when you found it (progressive refactor)
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality & distribute knowledge
  • Share knowledge by giving brown bags, tech talks, & evangelizing appropriate tech & engineering best practices

Experience

  • Must have 5+ years of software engineering industry experience
  • Advanced knowledge of JavaScript, CSS, & HTML
  • Good understanding of web performance & how browsers & DOM work
  • Experience working with modern JavaScript frameworks, like React
  • Experience with unit, integration, & end-to-end testing
  • Experience working with Product Managers & Designers
  • Experience working on projects that involve multiple teams
  • Experience breaking down high-level goals into actionable engineering tasks that can be delegated
  • Passion for user privacy, security or transportation industry
  • Contributions to the community (open source software, blogging, presentations)
  • Proficiency with TypeScript, Python, Go, and/or Bash
  • Familiarity with Docker & containerized computing
  • Experience using web build tools, such as Webpack, Gulp, & Grunt
  • Proficiency with browser developer tools
