Software Engineer I | Acorns

Acorns is seeking a talented & motivated entry level software engineer to join the Growth team & work on our Web platform.

Software engineers are responsible for translating high-level business requirements for new Acorns products & features into the services & data models that power them. They think critically about how to architect & build new components in a performant & scalable manner.

As a software engineer, your typical week will involve collaborating with product & other engineering teams such as mobile, frontend, & QA to plan & create new features & infrastructure to build reliable & cohesive financial products. 

We're looking for engineers that love learning new technologies on the job, think creatively to solve complex problems, & enjoy working collaboratively.

This role has the option to be remote or based in our Irvine, CA, or New York, NY offices.

Within 1 month, you will:

• Gain the support of Acorns top engineering talent to make contributions to our Web platform
• Contribute to the broader Engineering team by participating in peer reviews
• Deploy your code in production to millions of Acorns users
• Complete Acorns best-in-class onboarding, Acorns Seedling Program
• Participate in a virtual coffee session hosted by Acorns CEO, Noah Kerner
• Attend your first community-wide virtual all-hands meeting

Within 3 months, you will:

• Develop a CX experiment to increase conversion in our registration funnel
• Review your 30-60-90 day goals & accomplishments with your manager
• Engage in Acorns Community & Heritage celebrations
• Receive operational updates from our GoHenry & PixPay team members during Acorns quarterly global virtual all-hands session

Within 6 months, you will:

• Take full ownership of at least one feature, from requirements to implementation
• Identify areas for improvement & drive your vision for Acorns technology forward
• Contribute to & evangelize Acorns engineering culture
• Complete a Performance Development Check-in to align on Performance & Values Rating Trends

What you will bring to Acorns:

• BS or MS in Computer Science, EE or equivalent experience
• Passion for self improvement & learning
• Ownership of the software you produce
• 1+ years of programming in a functional or object oriented language
• Understanding of design patterns, basic algorithms & data structures
• Thirst for delivering game-changing products
• Exceptional drive & precision in delivery
• A belief that your work is tied to your life's mission

Compensation Information:

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $129,826 & $152,737/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, & experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including equity grants & discretionary cash bonus awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility & various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, & parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employee will be in an at-will position & the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, & market factors.
