Appians Public Sector Cloud compliance team is looking for an experienced Technical Writer with knowledge of public sector compliance such as FedRAMP, FISMA, & DISA Impact Levels.

The Technical Writer will conceptualize, design, & develop technical documentation for our clients including Policies & Procedures in support of Public Sector initiatives, internal team documentation, such as on-boarding documents, new employee guides, & work with security analysts to complete & submit monthly POA&Ms to government agencies. As a Technical Writer with Appian, you will work closely with our product engineering, cloud operations, & all teams within information security to ensure all documentation is current, accurate, & meets guidelines for certification bodies.

The ideal candidate is an initiative-taker with strong written & verbal communication skills, & an ability to quickly understand complex, technical concepts. In addition, the successful candidate will have strong analytical & project management skills with an ability to identify needs, develop effective solutions, & manage projects through completion.

To be successful in this role, you need:

  • Work alongside our teams to become knowledgeable in all aspects of our public sector program

  • Design, develop, & deliver high-quality, technical documentation in both traditional & online formats
  • Translate project goals & requirements into effective project plans

  • Create, edit, & maintain required policies & procedures in support of public sector programs.

  • Participate in growth of new methodologies, strategies, tools, training, & processes

  • Gather feedback from team members & other departments on existing documentation to implement content updates to ensure relevance, consistency, & accuracy.

  • Improve style, syntax, & terminology usage across materials to increase quality level & effectiveness of communications

  • Participate in peer reviews 

 

Basic qualifications:

  • BS in Engineering, Technical Communication, English, or related field required

  • Software development background preferred

  • 3+ years of experience as a technical writer in a software-development environment

  • 3+ years of experience authoring documentation for a highly, technical audience

  • Experience authoring technical documentation for highly technical & complex products

  • Experience with NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, & other compliance frameworks

  • Ability to effectively work with developers, testers, project managers, support staff & other subject matter experts to gather needed information.

  • Ability to select the right communication medium & methods for the audience & analyze the user experience to deliver the optimal technical support

  • Ability to meet established deadlines & quality standards & to deliver fully on commitments

  • Proven ability to quickly understand complex, technical concepts & create concise technical documentation

  • Proven ability to work in dynamic work environments with limited supervision to deliver results
