Squarespace is looking for a Backend Engineer to join our distributed web engineering team & work on our Bio Sites offering. Bio Sites is Squarespace's link in biography product that enables creators, entrepreneurs, & businesses to share their entire worlds in just one link. As more brands begin on social media, a Bio Site is a lightweight way for our customers to connect their followers to their company, grow their brand, & monetize their work.

Our web team collaborates across disciplines & delivers a terrific experience for Bio Site users regardless of their chosen platform. As a Backend Engineer your work will focus on architecture, performance & scalability. You will be involved in the end-to-end development of multiple components, & in the long-term vision of Squarespace for Bio Sites.

This is a hybrid role working from our Aveiro office 3 days per week. You will report to the Engineering Team Manager.

You'll Get To

  • Develop new features into the Squarespace Bio Sites offering
  • Take a lead role with other engineers to provide a rock solid platform & contribute to team processes.
  • Collaborate with teammates, & product, design, analytics, & customer operations to understand why we build the features we do
  • Help the team improve the existing codebase by promoting thoughtful design patterns & disciplined software engineering (e.g. automated testing, code reviews, & writing beautiful, readable code)
  • Scale & improve the performance of applications & databases
  • Manage engineering work streams to accelerate our velocity, supporting stakeholders along the way.

Who We're Looking For

  • 7+ years of Java or other object-oriented language application development, or Go development experience
  • 2+ years of experience using relational databases, such as MySQL or PostgreSQL
  • A solid foundation in computer science, with competencies in data structures, algorithms, & software design practices
  • A sincere commitment to creating readable code & a desire to write clear & practical technical documentation
  • A degree in Computer Science or related or equivalent industry experience
