Job Title: Data Center Engineer (part-time contractor)

Hours/week: ~20

Location: Ashburn, Virginia


  • Perform data center operations & basic system administration duties
  • Racking of servers, network devices & other equipment
  • Cabling, clean cable routing & cable management
  • Handling & resolving tasks provided via a ticket tracking system
  • Data center logistics, assisting with shipping, provisioning & decommissioning processes
  • Hardware problem identification & resolution, working with hardware vendor support teams & submitting RMA requests
  • Assist with asset & inventory management of hardware & data center supplies
  • Emergency response to system outages
  • Junior level system administration tasks
  • Share our values & work in accordance with them


  • 1+ year of hands-on experience working in a data center environment working with physical servers and/or 2 years of related college course work
  • 1+ year Linux/Unix system administration experience in a work or school environment
  • Troubleshooting skills in server & network equipment
  • Familiarity with data center power & cooling concepts
  • Strong communication skills & an ability to work independently, as an effective part of a globally distributed team
  • Ability to be on your feet all day
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs


  • Experience with electrical systems/cabling installation work
  • Familiarity with provisioning & managing Linux systems
  • Familiarity with DCIM tools
  • Familiarity with network device (switch) configuration


The position is based in Ashburn, Virginia, on-site at the Equinix data center campus.
