The Role

The Production & Operations Lead is responsible for the management of BuzzFeed Canadas creative infrastructure across both editorial & branded operations. This position works closely with internal stakeholders to ensure that programs are executed efficiently & in scope. This position also focuses on the development & maintenance of processes to ensure team optimization & smooth internal workflows.

The position is based in Toronto & has a one-year contract. We offer competitive compensation, & a super collaborative, entrepreneurial work environment.

You Will

  • Responsible for the overall health of BuzzFeed Canadas creative operations, including the building of internal systems, & the adoption & enforcement of those already in place
  • Manage incoming pre- & post-sale branded deals, working with Sales & Client Services to track & ensure they remain in scope as they make their way through the sales pipeline
  • Advise the local sales & client services teams on production & event costs.
  • Oversee internal creative resources, trafficking, & coordination of incoming requests & communication for job allocation 
  • Provide transparency into team utilisation, workload capacity, & pipeline
  • Track branded & editorial projects from pitch to delivery
  • Advise local staffers & freelancers on best production practices
  • Wrap-delivered projects, adhering to Legal & Finance best practices
  • Identify scalable solutions, including the creation and/or implementation of tools & processes to improve the internal productivity of the business in Toronto
  • Oversee the hiring of freelance production & post-production personnel & production companies, including the negotiation of budgets, drafting of scopes of work, & approval & submission of contracts & invoices
  • Manage local internal operations for existing & new creative product offerings in the development of workflows & processes
  • Problem-solve between inter-departmental teams on a daily basis
  • Assist with overall production & post-production needs 
  • Work with internal teams to build & maintain a network of freelance production & post-production support, & to ensure smooth workflow & payment for any freelancers engaged over the course of a project 
  • Work closely with the Sr Director of Global Production & Operations in New York & other BuzzFeed International stakeholders on ongoing in-market creative initiatives
  • Collaborate closely with Client Services, Creative, Research, Production, Sales, Legal, & Distribution teams throughout the life cycle of a project
  • Work closely with local Distribution Lead packaging up programs for launch 
  • Basic administration & database requirements setting up programs using internal processes & systems

You Have

  • 5-6 years of experience at an agency or competitive media or publishing company
  • Advanced knowledge of video pre-production, production, & post-production, including workflows & processes, equipment, & software programs/tools
  • Proven analytical & creative problem-solving skills
  • An ability to come up with unique solutions to complex problems
  • Solution-oriented approach & ability to thrive in a fast-paced & fluid environment, as well as situations of ambiguity & uncertainty
  • History of innovative, strategic thinking & planning skills
  • Calm under pressure able to organize & manage a high volume of work
  • Able to manage communications across multiple time zones
  • Ability to work with many styles of executives, communicators, program managers, & subject matter experts, both at the corporate & business levels
  • Knowledge of marketing & video branding is a must
