Jordan Levinson will useUN/FAO surveys to compilesomedemographic, land use, and deforestation-related indicators to see if I can find any (broadly) valuable correlates/predictors of Ebola and Marburg outbreaks. She want to see whether she can find any significant driversin countries that have had outbreaks in the past and assessthem in other countries within the distribution of Pteropid bats, the family of batsthat most commonly host ebola and similar viruses. Many of the countries have already shown serologic evidence of ebola etc. in the ecosystem, it just hasn't yet infected humans. Her hope is to find some commonalities between the outbreak countries and apply these patterns or thresholds to ranking the most- and least-likely areas of future emergence.

Mark Holt will discuss therelationship of geography and weather conditions to citibike speeds in NYC.Hesubset the citibike data to the fastest journeys between any 2 stations, restricting this further to subscribers, men and workdays between 9am - 5pm. Essentially looking for people who go directly and quickly from one station to the next (as opposed to "joy" riders).By using this data, he can access the MapQuest api to get distance and elevation between any 2 stations anddeduce an approximate speed. He thenaccess the Wunderground weather api to obtain multiple weather parameters - temp, precipitation, humidity, windspeed.Hemodeled the relationship between elevation and the weather parameters with bike speed.

Robert Deng usedCDC data to look at disease (obesity in my specific case) and see what behavioral, demographic, and attitudinal factors correlate with a disease. I imported and started cleaning and cutting the data.

Justin Montminy and Eleanor Juray will present, too.
