<P><STRONG>Join us for a lunch & learn conversation with<EM>Leyla Hussein</EM>,an anti-FGM campaigner & a survivor who shares her personal experience of FGM with the goal of focusing the conversation around FGM to increase the protection of girls.</STRONG></P>
<P><SPAN><A HREF="http://leylahussein.com/" TARGET="_blank" REL="noopener noreferrer noopener nofollow noopener noreferrer nofollow nofollow noreferrer nofollow"><STRONG>Leyla Hussein</STRONG></A> is a Somali psychotherapist, writer, specialist on female genital mutilation (FGM) & gender rights, & lead campaigner working to end violence against women & girls. She is the founder of the Dahlia Project, a psychotherapist & counseling service for survivors of FGM, & the chief executive of Hawas Haven, a collective of Somali women campaigners & community activists who work to raise awareness about violence against Somali women & children. Hussein is also the co-founder of Daughters of Eve, a nonprofit working to protect those at risk from FGM. She recently became a consultant & global ambassador for the Girl Generation Program, where she provides safeguarding training to ambassadors to help them cope with & campaign against FGM. She advises several organizations & has presented her research on FGM at Oxford, Cambridge, & Harvard, among others. For her work Hussein was awarded Cosmopolitans Ultimate Campaigner Women of the Year Award in 2010 & was named one of BBC's 100 Women of 2013.</SPAN></P>
<P>Every 11 seconds, a girl undergoes female genital mutilation (FGM).FGM is a practice of oppressing women & controlling women's sexuality. It is not an African issue, it is not an Asian issue; it is a global issue that requires a global investment in women.</P>
<P>Leyla will also be speaking at this year's <A HREF="https://oslofreedomforum.com/events/oslo-freedom-forum-in-new-york" TARGET="_blank" REL="noopener noreferrer noopener nofollow noopener noreferrer nofollow nofollow noreferrer nofollow"><STRONG>Oslo Freedom Forum</STRONG></A> in <STRONG>New York on September 19th</STRONG>.The Oslo Freedom Forum is a network of passionate advocates committed to the promotion of human rights across the globe.</P>
