Abstract:
How can visualisation be used to inform debate and decision-making? How do organisational perspectives affect what's possible? This talk will cover some visualisation examples and case studies from the perspective of a speaker whose career has spanned both the world of official statistics and, more recently, the newsroom.
Bio:
Alan is Data Visualisation Editor at the Financial Times. Prior to joining the FT, he created the Data Visualisation Centre at the UK Office for National Statistics. In 2010, Alan was an inaugural recipient of the Royal Statistical Society's award for Excellence in Official Statistics. A year later, Alan was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by HM The Queen for services to statistics.
