Working for yourself can be a wonderful thing, but having total responsibility over every aspect of your life and career can be utterly crushing. How can you be sure you'll be able to pay the bills next month? How are you going to find new clients or customers? How can you feel like you're more than just treading water? Perhaps most importantly: how can you cope with being the only one who is going through all of this?
What if you didn't have to feelso alone?
What if you could be the master of your own destiny, while still feeling like you have a strong sense of structure and accountability, on your terms? What if you could feel like you had the support you needed to make the hard parts not so hard and the good parts better? What if you could feel like you're a part of something that's bigger than yourself while still feeling like you are empowered and encouraged to be entirelyyou?
We can create this for each other.
One person's weakness is another's strength. Mutual interests can be identified and acted upon. Teams can be formed. Clubs can be formed. At the very least, and maybe most importantly, we can feel like we're not alone.We are scattered across the landscape, working silently on our headphones in our homes and cafes. We're being endlessly social online, while being anti-social in real life.
We work for ourselves. But we don't have to be on our own. On this weekend, our scattered ranks will gather to share our stories. We'll talk about what's great about the lives we're crafting for ourselves; we'll talk about what's hard about it, and we'll brainstorm new ways we might support each other-- and those who seek to follow our trails.

Everyone who attends can lead a conversation
IndieCon uses an unconference format for its programming. That means the people who attend are the people who determine what we talk about. If you have something you want to share with the group-- a process you use for managing yourself that you want to show off, or a common challenge you face that you want to invite brainstorming to solve, or just a topic you like to think about that you think might be interesting to others, this is your chance to get like-minded together to speak about it. <A HREF="https://hackpad.com/IndieCon-NYC-2014-wiki-page-MI0dUp1x7mA" TARGET="_blank" REL="nofollow nofollow">Want to propose a topic? Bring your favorite salad ingredient to help us make the Ultimate Community Salad Bar.
We did this at last year's IndieCon to great success-- each attendee brings a favorite salad ingredient, so everyone can make an amazing salad for themselves. We'll keep the ingredients out all day so you can keep coming back to it.
Stick around for a special celebration Saturday night
Our home and our host, New Work City, will be celebrating its sixth birthday on the night of Saturday, October 18. We'll be enjoying a very special Entrepreneurial Improv Theatre event (known as Half Baked Dot Com, facilitated by our good friend Eric Skiff) and more fun and play throughout the evening.
