Coding for Community (CfC) is the first of its kind, state-wide civic tech competition in New Jersey. We're matching techies up with actual local needs from municipalities across the state so that real solutions for local sustainability and public engagement issues can be developed through data and other technologies.

The competition kicks off with an all day event on Jan 27th in Newark where potential tech solutions to local issues will be ideated and teams will form (program agenda below). Teams will have the choice of choosing from a curated list of municipal need statements and related data or working directly with a municipality to address its need, and winning up to $8,000 and other prizes!

Techies: You will be asked to indicate whether you plan to attend the kick off event or need to be paired with a team when you register. We will do our best to match you with a team if you do not attend the kick off.

Municipalities: We ask that you arrive on Jan. 27th with your community need so that we can use it during the ideation session (related data would also be helpful to get teams cracking in the afternoon). You are invited to share your need & related data before hand on the CfC website by January 20th, especially if you do not plan on attending the kick off. This way teams will be able to choose your issue to immediately start working on. Also, if you have already identified interested techies to work on your issue, we encourage you to come with a team of your own! In order to participate in CfC, municipalities must be participating in the Sustainable Jersey program.
